The reserve has diverse habitats housing over a hundred natural species of plants and animals. You'll find a series of designated footpaths for easier access to the remote areas without disturbing the environment.

Orchids are strewn throughout the reserve, attracting wildlife like dragonflies and migratory birds. Several remarkable species of birds come to the reserve, such as the grey heron, the great spotted woodpecker, the kingfisher, the peregrine falcon and osprey. The rich biodiversity also supports wildflowers like yellow rattle and marsh woundwort, as well as insects like moths and bees.

Good to know when visiting Marton Mere Local Nature Reserve

Marton Mere Local Nature Reserve has no designated public parking. From April to September, you can access the reserve by parking on Lawson road or East Park Drive. You’ll see marked footpaths leading to the reserve entrance. The reserve is appropriate for all ages, so it's a great option for a family outing.

The reserve is a public attraction and free to visit. Though many plants and animals live in the reserve, you won't encounter large predators. For the health and safety of the reserve, stay on the designated footpaths and avoid direct contact with the wildlife and plant life.
