Rue Meynadier, the longest pedestrian street in Cannes, is located in the extension of the old town and was one of its first commercial thoroughfares. Back in 1883, when it was still called Large Road (Rue Grande), it was used by horses and horse-drawn carriages. Dressmakers, shoemakers and cobblers stood opposite butchers and greengrocers.
Nowadays, people continue to visit the street to stock up on meat, cheese, olives, nuts, good wine, macarons and sugared almonds. There are also a few souvenir shops and t-shirts of the city hang in shop windows alongside sarongs and other beach garments.
