La Rochelle is where you can take in great views of the Old Port and the three historic towers that surround it – or explore the ancient cobblestone interiors of the towers themselves. Walk to the mass of yachts stationed outside the Port des Minimes, and you'll find a lovely beach.
There's great shopping, and many charming cafés and bakeries, strewn along the bustling strip of Rue du Palais – while a vibrant nightlife, and many iterations of the area's signature drink of white wine mixed with fruit syrup, can be found a short walk away on Rue Saint-Nicolas.
