Service was awful! To get a table by the pool they wanted to charge us $250 for a table! Thanks to Zeke’s bar and grill for helping us out! We will never go back to steeplegate again after years of celebrating birthdays there! But we will be going to Zeke’s!!

The room was clean. The beds were very comfortable The toilet had a seal leak in the tank. So it was refilling with water every 15 to 20 min. We didn’t realize this until we got back to the room later about 10pm. Over all the stay was good.

Good enough
Pictures make it look way nicer than it really is. Layout is a little different but with the open concourse, it made for a louder/echoey visit. Our room furnace was terribly loud and had it not been 11pm when we noticed it, we would’ve asked for a different room. Had to use ear plugs to somewhat block out the noise but the fan on it sounded like rain or hail falling on a tin roof and we could not turn the fan feature off. Old furniture and lamps where the bulbs we barely hanging on in the socket of the lamp. We really just needed the room to sleep and leave so it worked for that.

Missing ceiling tiles in the hall with exposed wires and pipes. Smoke detector was missing from another family members room with wires hanging out where it should have been mounted. Pool was cold and cloudy with debris floating in it. Party was being thrown in the area around the pool with guests screaming ans running around until 12:30am. No attempts were made to enforce quiet hours or contain the issue.

Some good, some not so good
There was no heat in our room, no power to the unit. It was immediately following storm Blair and the temperature was very cold. We were reassigned to the room next door. The heater worked but began throwing cold air in the middle of the night and was also extremely noisy so we had to switch it off. The breakfast was excellent though and the attendant was very nice. Pool looked very nice although we didn't have time to use it. Beds were clean and pretty comfy, rooms.a little tired but clean enough. Just needed some heat but otherwise not bad for the price.

Stay Away
Based on past reviews and hotel pictures and price I thought this was a great deal, remember folks you get what you pay for! The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because staff was friendly and rooms were clean. The hotel itself is falling apart. The chlorine smell from the pool overwhelms the entire building. There were massive sections of ceiling tile missing or water damaged, wall paper falling down, rusted sprinkler system and that was just the common areas. The room ihad a singular ceiling light that was dim with two side table lamps that looked as though they were picked up from a dumpster. The bathroom fan and a/c unit groaned with a ferocity I've never heard and the mattresses were so worn in the middle they basically folded in half to devour you... I've never had problems with Bester Western but this one took the cake. The tub felt waxed (slipped multiple times while showering), the provided bathroom items seemed to be half filled with water and there was 1 coffee pod in a 2 queen bed room. We tried eating at the hotel restaurant but it was mostly seafood and way expensive for the area, 1 server, we waited 15 min until we left, we didn't even give breakfast a chance.

On its way down. Not up
A bit outdated which is fine considering the price. Although it seems like 40 years ago it was a really cool hotel with the restraint lounge, indoor pool area, etc. It’s unfortunate that it isn’t well maintained or updated. The largest problem is the heavily stained and worn sheets and towels. I find it hard to relax and get a good nights sleep when you are thinking about what remains are in your sheets from the last guest. Side note… the place has a strange (somewhat unpleasant) smell through the entire building.

Overall an ok stay.. but unfortunately customer service lacked BIG time. The community area by the pool is no longer free and costs $250 to rent. Wish we’d of known prior and we wouldn’t have stayed here because this was the whole purpose of our stay.

Skip this hotel
This was our second time staying here—we were here 6 months ago and the hotel was clean, organized and safe. Early in the morning we had a man in a hoodie and no identification pounding on our door asking if we needed our shower fixed. Front desk was uninterested in checking this out. The breakfast was very poor. There was a college football team staying and there was not enough food to feed all the boys let alone us. Only one staff member working in the kitchen. Very poorly planned—I doubt the buses just pulled up —I’m sure their trip was planned in advance so the hotel should have planned better with both food and staff. They wouldn’t even make more coffee. Will NOT BE STAYING HERE AGAIN.
