Don’t waste your money
When I arrived it was 80 in the room despite it being 40 outside. I turned the thermostat off and opened all the windows. Found a fan in the closet and went to dinner. Came back & it was 75.
When i went to leave in the morning, the push button that opens the front door before the front desk opens up did not work and i had to haul my bags out the back door to the patio & around the building to my vehicle.

Not worth the money
This hotel need a complete renovation.
The only positive things were the location and free parking. Also had WiFi.
Our room didn’t even have soap in the room. The room was super hot and couldn’t adjust the temperature! Had to use a fan in the window. The view would have been spectacular but the outside of the windows were filthy.

We have stayed at other hotels by the Grand Marais Hotel Company, but this was our first stay at the Shoreline Inn. IMHO, this the best value for pet friendly lodging in town. It is no frills as far as the furnishings, tvs etc. But the location is spectacular and I really appreciate they allow pets. Everything was clean and the room was spacious. What we spent for two nights was easily less than one night at another property was that would not allow pets. The patio and beach are amazing. And the staff was very friendly and helpful. We are already planning our next stay.

Had no parking spot as the lot was full. Heat did not work and it was 40 degrees outside in the night. Nice staff though

We were not Happy
Windows foggy so that you can’t see out to the lake also cracked all full length full of moisture
Also window on our ground floor room could not be locked anybody could have gotten in to our room just by raising the window up from the outside. The girl at the desk even tried and could not lock the window.

The property is in disrepair… lake view window was opaque. No air conditioning, just baseboard heat units. Just a box fan. Staff friendly, but powerless. Only good feature is back deck area with chairs for lakeside view. Fire place but of course, no wood. Shower head terrific for someone 4’ tall. Breakfast was coffee, toast and packaged cereal. Only one key per room even for two guests.

The Shoreline needs massive capital improvements. My room that lacked a screen. The sink stopper was broken. The TV does not get standard network programming only streaming services. That’s a problem. Lack of convenient and numerous outlets was also an issue. I only had 1 chair. rather than 2 which is customary. The bath tub lacked a tub mat. I could have fallen quite easily had I not brought shower sandals. And during my showers the water would run cold for no apparent reason. I will definitely not be staying there again.

We have stayed here over the past four years and always have a good experience here. The breakfasts are always good and filling. Very easy to move round to the lake and other places.

I stayed here about 7 years ago and it seemed decent for the price back then. I noticed no updates have been made since then, and I'm pretty sure people/staff live there or they're renting the rooms out for extended stays. I heard a dog whining behind staff doors multiple times! This place could be really nice, if they update and put some effort into turning things around. I won't be staying here again.

Beautiful view and absolutely lovely shops all within walking distance.
Windows were dirty, lots of cob webs and spiders in various locations.
NO AC IN ROOMS, was very warm during the day, but lovely in the evenings with the breeze coming off the water.

If you don’t mind stained carpet and dated furniture, no air conditioning and a very packaged food breakfast, the location and terrace were great for visiting Grand Marais

The views and location are great. The furniture and mattresses and pillows are worn out and shabby, including common areas.
A plus: filtered water and parking.
