Clean, inexpensive homestay
I highly recommend this homestay. The room was clean and basic and walking distance from the main strip in Ubud. It's about 1.5 kilometers down a hill. I did not have problems walking it. I recommend that if you are walking at night to walk on Il Suetra (road that homestay is on) as opposed to the other road that is more scenic because it s not lit in certain areas. There are stretches in both roads where there are no sidewalks but I walked facing traffic and moved to the the side when cars came.
The owner conducts tours and hires himself out as a private driver. He definitely wants to make money, however he is an excellent tour guide and has good command of the English language. He will tell you a lot of interesting cultural tidbits. I spend a week with him driving to various places and was able to visit a lot of temples all over Bali.
The staff is very nice and the family is welcoming. It's a very safe place to stay. I only saw two tiny lizards and there were hardly any mosquitoes. There was no air condition in my room but the ceiling fan was cool enough. They also provide a nice basic breakfast of either banana pancakes or cheesy egg toast and coffee. They have a little restaurant on site and the wife makes a chicken curry that is simple and tastes home made. It was very good and a nice change from the restaurant food I was consuming in town.
