I stayed at the Pelicano for a week recently and absolutely loved it. I had a standard room, which served its purpose. In a place like Esterillos Este you really shouldn't be spending much time in your room other than to sleep anyway. The air conditioner worked great, and the bed was comfortable. Mikey and Diana (the owners) were absolutely wonderful; they were there with a smile on their face for anything I needed, checking in with me from time to time. In the mornings I enjoyed fresh local fruit and coffee whilst talking with Mikey and Diana and the staff as everyone started their day, listening to and watching the waves roll in on the beach. One morning one of the staff had collected some coconuts that had fallen the night before, and handed me one with a straw... What a great way to wake up. I spent the afternoons either walking along Playa Esterillos to my hearts content while watching the Macaws that fill the tree line, or day-tripping to many of the amazing sights this part of Costa Rica has to offer. At night I would settle in downstairs at the bar to an amazing and diverse menu and plenty of cold Imperial's. Aside from hotel guests, the restaurant and bar are a nightly hotspot for both locals and American expats who live nearby. I could go on forever about the beauty and character of Hotel Pelicano, but it is best learned first hand. If you're looking for a quiet, peaceful, beautiful little hotel filled with great people and lifelong memories, this is your place.
