Great hotel for the money, staff, rooms and general hotel excellent. Pool and leisure area a let down, pretty tired and men’s changing rooms dirty and old

Poor customer service
Upon checking in at the Mercure I was met by a rude attendant Maciej at the desk who had zero interpersonal skills. He initially asked if I had a reservation which I answered yes and gave my name. He was looking for the booking for approximately 5 mins, I thought he may not be able to find me so I said would you like the reference number? To which he replied sternly “I’ve got it!” But you are only booked for one night and it is for 1 person!” To which I replied I am booked for 3 nights and yes I am aware that it is only for me. I can only assume the reference to the one person booking is due to my niece standing next to me as she picked me up from the station. From there, he gave me the keys to my initial room which was in the basement of the hotel. As I have mobility issues I was not able to walk the amount steps required to that room and there were no lifts available. I had to go back to reception to request a new room. This time I was placed in a room with no heating. After 3 attempts to fix the heating whilst I left in the cold room, I requested an additional blanket, which I never received I was eventually moved to another room. This room was better and had full heating but it begged the question why was I not moved in the first place. Maciej then advised that this is the room I would have had if I had accepted the room in the basement. This caused undue upset as my stay here was for my late aunty’s funeral.

Breakfast was excellent, & hot!
Their restaurant menu is very Basic, & as for the room it was cold evan though their was air-con it was set on a certain temperature as you couldn’t put it up,, to warm the room

Won’t be back to this cold cutting corners hotel.
Our room heating system was not working, there was a tiny oil filled radiator instead! It was -4° outside! I ask at reception to get a resolution!
Response hotel has 160 rooms, 99 occupied.
Based on our booking the room we booked was the one we’d been allocated. It was a standard double.
The room the event we were attending was also very cold.
The bar offer was also poor, 10% white wine, no port poor beer!
