Budget vacation
We just returned from a week at Casa del Mar Cozumel Hotel & Dive Resort. At the time of our stay the hotel is under construction which means that during the daytime hours you will hear every single sound while trying to rest in your room. We were on the 3rd floor and could hear everything being constructed for the 4th floor addition. The room itself was very tight with the furniture in the room. The bed was a large king sized bed which was appreciated but they had large wood furniture that made it barely walkable and zero storage for our clothes. The staff were pleasant enough. The restaurant was convenient however they said the buffet would be served at breakfast and it was not for the days we stayed there which made it hard to do a full sit down breakfast right before our dive adventures.

Pésima atención del personal del restaurante
El servicio en el restaurante pésimo. A pesar de tener un crédito a favor en el restaurante el trato fue grosero por parte de la cajera. Al día siguiente del incidente, solo por pararme en el restaurante sin sentarme ni ordenar nada, llamó a mi habitación dos veces para querer hacerme un cobro de un consumo que nunca realicé. Por cierto de manera altanera y grosera. Me hizo perder tiempo valioso (me esperaban en el centro de buceo y tuve que tomar un taxi) al ir al restaurante para aclarar la ineptitud de la encargada del restaurante.

Main reason for the ratings is that the property was undergoing various forms of renovations and construction. That process started around 8 AM and went till around 6 PM Mon to Fri. Basically there was no quiet place inside the main property during that time. Otherwise, the property met my needs, the staff was helpful and friendly, and it was located in a good area closer to the cruise ship terminal area then actual city, which is generally a better area to be.

The $25 food credit was partly used for an unexpected extra charge of $25 for some “resort fees” which since I used part of it for food that was never served hot or even warm but was cold I still had to pay $30.42 out of pocket at checkout. First place I stayed that had no coffee in the room. Always hearing water coming through the pipes from upstairs showers and toilets. Door wouldn’t open without having to push with foot and basically slam to shut it, made it super loud for people around my room. Towels all over the floors to trip on in public doorways. Can’t watch Tv at all. All food ordered in the restaurant on site was cold even French fries and pancakes. Had bacon on menu but would say they didn’t have any so chose ham, one tiny slice. Remodeling was going on so noisy a lot of the day. Wouldn’t return to this “resort”. Pictures are misleading only one small part by the shore to sit with no beach. I saw no VIP sort of services.

El personal es muy amable, todos te atienden super bien, pero el hotel tiene mucho que mejorar en cuanto a su mantenimiento, que debo reconocer estaba en remodelacion, sin embargo, estan bastante descuidadas las habitaciones, mi regadera no servia, no tuve agua caliente hasta reportarla, esos detalles tienen mucho que ver para decidir si regresas.

The pictures online make the rooms appear nicer than what they are. The phone in my room was not even connected, there was no cord therefore my phone did not work. I did go down and inform the desk. It was not fixed. Our first night there, my 6 year old son got sick in the middle of the night from food poisoning (not from the resort) and threw up on the bed. I was charged $50 USD for this. I would understand if a grown up got drunk and vomited everywhere, ruining stuff, but this is a 6 year old kid that could not help himself. The beds are not comfortable at all, unless you like a very firm bed. We checked out of our room two days early. The pool was very clean! If you eat at the restaurant at this resort, you HAVE to try the chocolate cake with coconut ice cream, literally the best chocolate cake ever!

The hotel really reminds you that you’re not in a first world country by far…it’s so old, dark, and run down that you literally use physical keys for doors and the safe. It’s on par with old motels you see in movies. The location was good but this was not worth the cost savings. I should’ve went with a more expensive option or dive resort. For the quality, this should’ve been half of what it cost. The food at the restaurant was actually really good. I had breakfast here twice and it was totally worth the price, delicious and cheap.

The staff is excellent! 🙌. Very friendly and accommodating. The location allowed us to safely cross the road and get on our boat to Scuba dive. Our bed was comfortable and was very happy our room had a refrigerator and air conditioning. The hotel is in a state of renovation with lots of noise during the day. It would have been great to have a small table with chairs in the room.

This place is past its prime. When you check in, you get no information about the facility procedures - meals, towel exchange process, etc. By the last day I figured it all out. With few exceptions, the staff is rude, low energy, and often act inconvenienced. The electrical outlets were hanging out of the wall. Ants run around your room. Beds are extremely hard. Very low water pressure and lukewarm temperature. The beach area is actually 12 kilometers away. The food is mediocre at best. Construction is happening so the daytime hours are very loud. If you’re hoping for a nap in your room, don’t count on it because of the noise. No elevator.
