Bring your own chair to wedge under doorknob.
I was travelling as a solo female traveler. I was the only guest in the hotel. It was the first hotel I’ve ever been to that did not have a secondary lock on the door. It was too similar to the set of a horror movie to be able to stay. The only thing I knew for sure was that I, the creepy front desk, guy, and everyone else who had ever stayed in this room, would have access after I fell asleep. I asked myself if anyone would have any sympathy for me if I was raped and murdered overnight because based on the circumstances, there did not appear to be any other possible outcome. It was only the second time in my hotel staying life when I was asked to pay for the full stay before checking in. The time before that my husband had to arrange the ceiling tiles over the bed so that if the rats fell through one of the gaps, they wouldn’t land on us while we were sleeping. Lesson learned, if they ask for payment in full before you check in, you’re better off sleeping in your car.
