Tired rooms. Shower backed up. TV didn't work. Room had a smell, prob bc it's pet friendly, a urine smell covered by cleaner. The area is nice. The staff was friendly.

"Essential" Means "Barely Adequate"
This was my first stay at the Sonesta Essential Fairmont. The event was a college football game, and though I made the reservation months ago, the usual places I stay were booked up. The location (on the property of the redeveloped Middletown Mall) is good. The night before, they called to 'confirm' my reservation. I get electronic reminders frequently, but not a call from the property for decades. Odd. The first room we were placed in had not been cleaned; the toilet, in particular was filthy and would not flush properly. The second room was likewise dirty; the third, finally was 'clean' (except for a horrible stain on the carpet). The A/C unit was set to cool at 60 degrees. By the time we were settled into our room, it was too late to go to a favorite locally owned restaurant next door. We ended up at Applebee's. The drain in the tub was slow, and the drain knob not attached. There is no mat to prevent slipping in the tub in the accumulated water. For some reason, the main entrance to the hotel is in the back. Here is a partial list of other items deemed "non-essential" by Sonesta: * Signage to guide you to the property * In-room coffee service * Housekeeping service * Real eggs -- there is a hot breakfast, but the scrambled eggs are powdered. Further, there is no cheese or salsa to cover this fact up. A batter dispenser hinted at the presence of waffle maker, but it wasn't there. This is now my LAST choice of hotels in the area.

Quick stop over for a night on way home. Check in was amazing and Nick was very helpful. Room was clean I guess. Many stains on carpet and one of the beds the sheet was dull- not white like the others. Very few towels in the bathroom and they were very thin. Complimentary breakfast was good but the table were not being wiped down and had to ask for Tea bags.

Meh.
Check in was great. Our room was clean and comfortable. After that it all went downhill. Not enough towels- not just in our room but in total on the property, there was coffee but no tea, no iron, the breakfast was nothing but carbs. The waffle iron was broken and the morning staff was inattentive to guests. No soap or paper towels in the public bathroom. No water fountain. I wouldn’t return to this hotel.

I had a handicap room. I am guessing they gave me this room because I had a brace on my shoulder. The room did not drain properly so there was standing water in the bathroom around the sink area. I have been using hotels for over forty years now and this is the first time I have ever encountered a situation where there were not large towels available. Sonesta Essential Fairmont only had medium size towels available. The breakfast was okay, but the coffee seems watered down, so it wasn't good.

I had to extend my stay by a day and chose to do it directly at the hotel rather than through Expedia. The manager ended up charging me five times the quoted rate and ghosted me after repeated attempts just to get a receipt.

Location Hospitality & Comfort 10/10
The staff was friendly, attentive and expedient, especially the check-in; for check-out, the staff was super-accommodating to switch to a late checkout same-day, since we were running behind in our schedule. My only issue was with the coffee bar/breakfast area, as there were zero napkins provided for the duration of our stay, even during the posted complimentary breakfast hours; there were zero lids for the coffee cups provided during the duration between check-in & check-out, and the coffee urns on our departure day were emptied by the middle of the breakfast hours and not refilled by time we were leaving, late. I understand the staffing was minimal and figured there were likely shortages of manpower to cover a guest's anticipated needs...but napkins are pretty basic, & we used up all of our bathroom tissues in lieu of having napkins at the breakfast area. I definitely was pleased with the location of this property, the comfort of our room, and grateful for a working fridge for our necessities in the room as well. We look forward to staying again on our next visit to Fairmont.
