The staff were helpful on arrival, smoothing out a booking issue. One disappointing thing was that the kitchen facilities are no longer available (closed for a refurb, but other reviews suggest they've been closed over a month). I wasn't told before arriving in at check in, and this was part of my reason for my booking, and I spent a lot more money buying hot drinks over my visit, so this was frustrating.
The location was good, the rooms were spacious, and although dated and an old building, the facilities were OK.
My bunk bed was very creeky, low on the floor and not particularly comfortable (with a broken bedside shelf). It was nice to have a privacy curtain and plugs by the bed.
When I was collecting my luggage, there was no staff and several people had been waiting 10 minutes to leave their bags, in the late morning. I tried the luggage room door handle and it was open. So the positive was that me and others could access the luggage room instead of waiting for staff to arrive, the negative was that the luggage was completely unsecured and people were frustrated they had been waiting needlessly for 10 minutes for staff to appear
