8/10 Very good

Ideally Located

Great place to stay with easy access to tramway and Haymarket Station. Found parking (albeit expensive at £26.49 for the night)) at the Distillery across the road about 200m away.

We did not realise there was no reception, but luckily we checked in before the staff left. Helpful staff. We have to pay cash in full since their card machine was broken? Good location, but can be noisy. Good size room but not comfortable bed.

8/10 Very good

I loved the room. It was huge and beautiful. Just the sanitary facilities could use an update. We had fans and radiators/heaters to use. Close by (1 min walking) was the haymarket tram station. That was very useful and so we were fast in the center.
Romy, 4-night trip

8/10 Very good

They only take cash for Expedia bookings.
Cristian, 2-night trip

Very close to Haymarket station, so close to transport links.

2/10 Poor

The is no toilet paper holder The toilet seat is loose and can't be tightened by hand The fulcrum for the toilet flush is loose and need better tightening then the piece of paper currently jammed in place as it makes it incredible hard to flush and sometimes you have to stand on the toilet to pull the lever to flush The chain to the toilet is falling of as the top chain link is opening The downspout pipe from the cistern is fixed with tape. The shower cubicle is fixed with tape and the drain needs to be cleaned I found a previous guests bar soap on top of the shower One of the tap handles fell off There is missing at least 5 light bulbs, 3 in the wall lights by between the doors , 1 in the left side reading lamp by the bed and 1 by the bathroom mirror The pull string to turn on the lights by the other bathroom mirror is also missing The windows in the main room are stuck from paint, you can only open the window in the bathroom to air out the room. There missing several knobs on drawers. The daybed drawers are fixed with tape. The TV resets its settings when turned of. The kettle needs cleaning as something is burnt on the bottom The bed is very hard and needs a bed topper The top of the 4 poster bed looks like it has never been cleaned as there is a huge layer of dust The carpet is incredibly dirty and needs a thorough cleaning The lack of a credit card machine is not acceptable in this day and age. I had to get 540 pounds in cash just to get our room

Dont stay here

Looks nothing like the photos. Very dated looks really rough not very clean. Shower had part of the wall missing and was covered with a bit of black plastic and the flooring was coming up

Guard’s Hotel review

Down for rugby. Hotel basic and a little tired in need of a facelift. Shower only warm at best. Extra heaters in room. Which were needed. Old windows bit draughty. Overall nae good and nae bad.

Guards hotel December 24

The front door was locked so waited over 5 mins to be answered. They asked for cash payment upon entry as they no longer deal with credit cards.water was cold for shower

Affordable, safe, great location

This hotel was worth the low price. Places in Edinburgh are generally super expensive, so this a great option if you're okay with staying somewhere a little less fancy but in a great location. It's a bit out-dated but has lots of character, and it's in a safe, central location (incredibly close to st Mary's Cathedral) and about 20 mins walking from the Royal Mile and all the action. There are good affordable food options nearby as well, and it's a minute from the tram station which was nice because we were hauling around luggage.

Very cheap to stay in Edinburgh so if you don’t mind absolute basic stay then this is for you.

The Guards Hotel Edinburgh

Reception was great when they finally opened at 2pm. Room was large but dated. Trouble with flushing WC. Close to trains, buses and trams.
Tim, 2-night trip

6/10 Good

The shower was cold - not hot water and when we got to the room it was cold but I told the receptionist and he provided me with a heater but the hot water was not reported. No receptionist around at 6am for me to report the problem to. Room was comfy and clean. great value for a night in Edinburgh which is expensive.
Beverley, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

Had to pay cash for the room. Their CC system had been compromised. Staff- friendly. Beds-Uncomfortable Location-convenient Good area for transportation and dining options.
Lorraine, 2-night trip

6/10 Good

Ok if all you wanted was a bed for the night. A little tired and needs some updating, but ok for the price paid.
David, 1-night trip

Tired and run down

Cheap crash pad in very rundown order. If you want a one night sleep and shower in a great location, crack on. If you're looking for anything even remotely salubrious, look elsewhere.
Ken, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

The hotel was dusty, not very secure needs updating and renovating
Lynne, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

I stayed here on the 15th aug 2022 the room didn't have curtains or blinds and the bed wasn't very good and its a shared bathroom the only best thing about the hotel is the location be aware if you book in their is no curtains or blinds
Jordan, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

The bathroom facilities were sub par - the toilet did not flush easily and the shower was lukewarm The bedroom was spacious and lovely, but the bed was not very comfortable. Noisy for sure, but to be expected given its proximity to the tram and train station. City noises - we could definitely live with them (and sleep through them)

Basic but brilliant location

The lady who welcomed me couldnt have been nicer.Gave me a choice of two rooms. Unfortunately the one i choose there was no tv remote. Its a good basic budget hotel, and i felt very safe there being a solo traveller. The haymarket station is just over the road so getting into city center not a problem.
Beverrley, 1-night trip

4/10 Fair

Comfortable but not to standard

Dusty in places, bed frame broken, chair legs loose, lock on bathroom door was loose, carpet filthy. Celing had marks on it.

Very friendly staff

Very friendly staff and ideally situated in the vicinity of Haymarket Station. Cosy room but the bed wasn't the best I've slept in. And the bathroom wasnt' very pretty either. But fully functional and at that rate I was content.
