Real gem in Funchal
This is excellent hotel, and we loved the building and the surrounding garden. It is not in the main area of large all inclusive hotels, but in a residential part of the city which made our Madeira experience more authentic. The walk to the center is easy, but I imagine it may be not that comfortable for someone with walking difficulties. We enjoyed our climb and had bo problem with it. The hotel garden is so well kept, gardener obviously doing good job. (And Sasha dog accompanying him) The views to Funchal and the ocean are also amazing. Our room was spacious and comfortable. What was a bit disturbing was the morning noise from the kitchen and the breakfast area. It would have been better if they kept the door to the kitchen closed. But the nights were silent and we could have a good rest. What is very special at the hotel is its staff, especially Jessica and Nuno at the reception, whose tips and assistance made our stay much easier. And also Delia from the accounting team who made our Madeira adventure memorable.

The staff were absolutely wonderful and the room was extremely clean, large, and comfortable. The breakfast was fantastic and I will absolutely stay here again for my next trip to Funchal. Was able to walk to Old Town shops and the boardwalk within 10-12 minutes and could have used the bus stops if I had needed.

Lovely hotel near Funchal city
Lovely place near Funchal city. Our room was spacious and we had a great view over the harbour. Bathroom and kitchenett great. But - we were missing a shelf above the zink. Would have become more functional. The garden - woow. Glad we found your hotel. Belinda in the frontdesk - serviceminded, helpful, professional and always with a smile. 😊

Good value for money!
The hotel is situated on a hillside in a peaceful area near Funchal's old town, offering stunning views of the city and the surrounding mountains. While the property has not been recently updated, the facilities are clean and comfortable. The staff is exceptionally friendly, creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests. The breakfast is good, although it was not included in the room price. The old town is less than a kilometer away, but be prepared for a steep hill. The city center is also conveniently located about a kilometer away. The area offers plenty of enjoyable activities, such as the cable car ride, the botanical garden, and the unique experience of riding traditional wooden sledges.

Peaceful and green
I absolutely loved this hotel. It’s so beautiful and historic. It’s in a quiet area although there are dogs near by that bark all the time. Can be fixed with earplugs . Within walking distance of tons of restaurants and shops. Very peaceful vibes here!!

I stayed one week at the Arts In Hotel Conde Carvalhal and it was an amazing stay. The highlight of our stay were the staff. Nuno was working at reception most days and he was a delight to speak to. He is very knowledgeable about the island and its history. We learned a lot and were able to plan our itinerary based on the information he shared. He also helped accommodate parking for our large rental car. Manuela who also worked at reception was sweet as well and made our early checkout a breeze. We did breakfast 2 days and the food and service was great! The banana pancakes/ waffles and pastry of the day were delicious! Every staff member had a nice smile and were genuine in making sure we felt welcome. Location is also great. There are many dinner options about 10-15 minutes walk from the hotel. Most of Funchal was walkable from the hotel. There is a bus stop available across the street as well. Would definitely stay here again the next time I visit Madeira.

The property was great, the grounds were really nice and the breakfast was good! There's a bus stop right outside the front door (though the road there can be a bit sketchy if waiting for the bus to go into town, as there isn't much in the way of a sidewalk on that side of the street, though there's a little area you can stand by the hotel entrance). The hotel staff were great. Very friendly and helpful. In particular, Nuno was very helpful. We wanted to rent a car for a day, and he took care of it all, organizing with a local company, had the car delivered to the hotel, and we were able to drop the car back off with the hotel along with the keys to get picked up by the rental company. He also gave us lots of recommendations for local restaurants and the like, and we had a couple really interesting conversations on world history. Overall we had a great stay, would definitely recommend :)

Very friendly staff. Spotless room and daily cleaning. Location close to Old Funchal town even though up it is up a hill - ten minutes walk. Bus stop directly outside hotel. Kitchenette facilities. Breakfast available if wanted with generous portions. Again staff very friendly.

Lo staff dell’hotel è stato molto gentile e disponibile, la posizione ti permette di non prendere la macchina per passeggiare la sera nel cuore di Funchal. Il soggiorno è stato ottimo rispetto al prezzo pagato, abbiamo anche utilizzato il servizio di lavanderia e i vestiti consegnati alla reseption sabato sera (20:30) ci sono stati consegnati domenica mattina (alle 9 erano già pronti!). Che dire lo consiglierei a chiunque voglia fare un viaggio nell’isola di Madeira. Se devo trovare dei punti negativi da segnalare al personale dell’hotel sono: la finestra della camera che aveva un difetto nella chiusura e i letti un po’ instabili.
