4/5 that could have been 5/5 if they had only...
The rooms, the pool, and the restaurant all deserve 5/5 stars. So does their guest services team who helped us book a couple of fun adventures (surfing lessons and a tour of Manual Antonio National Park). That said, overall I'm giving 4/5 stars because of a few misses on service: 1) we booked two rooms via hotels.com under the same reservation and the hotel staff didn't think to put our rooms near each other. Not even in the same building, which was inconvenient for our family of 6. They did their best to get us closer by the second day, which I appreciated, and which helps them retain 4/5 stars. Maybe I didn't add a note in my reservation requesting they hold rooms near each other, but IMHO I shouldn't have to; 2) they never found time to make up our room. We were there two nights, and they never knocked or anything. We even requested they do it while we went out, but nothing. Part of the reason we do hotel/resorts is to have our rooms serviced each day. And 3) they asked if I'd like to open a tab with the hotel and then it didn't seem to work at the restaurant and they wanted my signature at checkout as well instead of just letting us leave the keys in our room and go. That makes me sound lazy, and frankly, I'm looking for a 5/5 hotel to do everything in their power to let me be as lazy as I'd like to be. We had a great time, and we'd probably go back. But it wasn't a slam dunk, which it could have been if they were slightly more customer experience obsessed.
