Liked the character of the place...very vintage and Victorian like. Our room was very warm and hot...didn't realize there was no air conditioning! By the evening the room cooled with the windows open and the fan going. The furniture and carpet were outdated...however the shower looks like it was renovated. Breakfast was okay..I would say a step down from continental. The location was good...walking distance to the ocean and close to restaurants and shops by car.

Beautiful Home

Absolutely loved this old Victorian house turned hotel. Beautiful antique furniture. Even a wardrobe rather than a closet. The front desk staff were friendly. The continental breakfast was just enough to start our day with a delicious Greek yogurt parfait. Location was within walking distance of the beach, restaurants and shopping. Would stay here again.

Only for Victorian house lovers

For people who like Victorian houses made of wood from the last century. Old fashioned and stylish but you here every step and word of the neighbor. Breakfast with good but small granola/fruits and tiny bakery pieces. No expresso or cappuccino. No luggage support. Overall too expensive.

Lovely historic hotel in Pacific Grove

Great location and Pacific Grove is a lovely area to stay near Monterey. The Centrella Hotel is a historic hotel so facilities in the room are a little dated but still very comfortable. We needed to make the sofa bed up on arrival for teenage children but linen all in the room so quick to do. Good breakfast with delicious granola, although only starts at 8am which may be helpful to be aware of if booked on a 9am whale watching trip from Fisherman’s Wharf. Enjoyed the complimentary glass of wine relaxing in the hotel lounge. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Not good value for money

Good location with some lovely restaurants within walking distance and the exterior of the building is beautiful / historic but the inside really needs some attention (website photos are very flattering in my view) the room itself was pretty dingy, with marked paint, mirrors in broken frames, paint peeling on shutters etc. - it’s for potential but needs a bit of love! Also (disappointingly) in spite of mentioning dietary requirements no effort was made (and the breakfast in general was poor irrespective of requirements) - we ended up going somewhere else after the first morning in spite of paying for a room with breakfast included (bad coffee, “juice” which tasted very sugary and artificial, they had no butter/spread for toast and there was one tiny pot of grape jelly / jam we had to share because they’d run out, no non-dairy milks etc. All of this would be forgivable if it had been a cheap hotel but it was one of the more expensive hotels on our 3-week California trip and so far has easily been the lowest quality place we’ve stayed. I’m genuinely surprised by the high rating. I don’t normally like leaving negative reviews (I’d always prefer to provide feedback in person) but the staff didn’t seem hugely interested (certainly no apologies or attempts to rectify the breakfast situation) and we weren’t asked once whether everything was ok with our stay.

Historic boutique hotel. Rooms are a little small but service was fantastic and we appreciated the complimentary breakfast. Great location, convenient to Monterey Bay Aquarium.

Unclean and Unhelpful

We arrived after the lobby hours so we had to check ourselves in. When we entered the room, we found that the sheets were dirtied with large stains. Calling the after hours line (no staff on-site after 8:30pm) was unhelpful and the manager was disinterested in resolving the issue, telling us we had no other option than to use the dirty sheets plus the extra blanket in the room. In the morning, we also discovered our towels were stained and dirty. This time, the front desk was there but said there were no spare towels they could give us. Management actively stays away from the property while guests are present and will intentionally be unresponsive to any calls. Hotels.com was able to help with a refund, but beware the poor management here.

The hotel looked nice when we walked in but it smelled like a hospital and reeked of chemicals which should’ve been my first red flag. The staff was pleasant in manner but not very welcoming. There was another couple who seemed to have a great time though that we ran into a couple times so could just be us. The bed was hard and the room was creepy. There was no AC and we were told to open the windows but the windows didn’t have screens at all. I woke up with hives the next day and when I told the front desk they immediately dismissed me and didn’t show any care about the situation. My SO and I just wanted to continue checkout at that point and leave.
