Fantastic hotel, but disappointed
Love the hotel because of the fantastic location and amazing staff. The adult only concept and open bar was exactly what we were looking for, sadly we wouldn’t stay again, the room was basic and actually felt unpleasant to stay in, no beside cabinets nowhere to unpack, other than a rail with a handful of hangers and a bathroom is dated. It’s a real shame as we loved the hotel concept, but would only stay again if the rooms were completely overhauled

To be petty: I've seen much older buildings in Europe with elevators (added, of course, in the 19th and 20th centuries). The hot water is unstable in the showers (or, certainly in my room). Magnificent staff of by smart, young people ready for intelligent conversation and useful suggestions —of things actually off the beaten path.

Excellent location
Having booked for 4 nights post our cruise holiday, we were upgraded to a bigger room so that we would be more comfortable. And it was. The room was very basic but it was spacious with one double and one single bed. The beds were very comfortable and we slept well every night. The services from all staff were excellent. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The location was fantastic as it was very easy to walk everywhere within the old San Juan. The rooftop area was nice to sit in the evening.

Nice place!
I would absolutely stay here again. It's pretty awesome to be handed your room key and asked if you need a beer. The internet worked fairly well, the rooms were clean, and I could not hear any riff raff outside. Also, it's very well-located in the heart of everything.

Great little escape in Old San Juan w open free bar! Extremely friendly and accommodating staff! Easy walking distance to food shopping and municipal inexpensive parking. This is my second time there. They must have noted and gave me a free bottle of wine for the room. Great terrace view.Safe area.

Home away from home
Second time at El colonial in 2 years. This time I traveled alone for a week on the island but I needed to rest. Parcha with Vodka at the front desk and I slept like a baby from 4 pm - 10:45 am. I feel at home here and I feel safe. Off to my travels celebrating my 50th Birthday. Thank you Family at El Colonial

Beautiful old building in center of old San Juan.
Very nice, old architecture place, excellent location. Room was great. Staff was very friendly and helpful. No elevator, which I don’t mind at all, but worth noting.

Awesome
Great service, very friendly from the point you open the door! They really want you to relax and have a good time! The lobby has a bar, with the drinks being a courtesy! The staff was awesome, and I would absolutely stay here again.
