Not what I am used to for a Hilton. Efforts to repair things were poorly executed. Large “bumps” on the walls where damage had been caused and not repaired skillfully. The bathroom outdated, tub chipped in multiple places, and wall paper peeling. One of the elevators was out of service. Breakfast was what I would expect from a bottom line continental offering. Check in was open 11-3 according to reservation, though admittedly they were only at 40% occupancy they did not have a room ready at 2. They said they would call when a room was ready but never did. Perhaps the biggest surprise was that parking was $20 a night !!! That was not disclosed in the reservation and when I shared that the attendant said, “Ya we hear that a lot , even I have to pay for parking”.

Beautiful Hotel but...
I really wanted to love this property but couldn't.
It's a money grab...
Starting with Cons:
1. Upon entering, while struggling with your luggage and cart, there is a desk to the side with a Hilton timeshare representative calling for your attention. It was not the time for that as people are trying to get through the hustle & bustle of checking in, luggage and getting to their rooms to settle in and rest from traveling.
2. Beautiful hotel but Hilton does absolutely nothing for the customers. If you're going to charge $20-25 for parking, offer free breakfast at least or vice versa. Breakfast for 2 people is $36. Omelet station was nice but everything else is just okay.
3. A/c super loud with little rattling chain like noises intermittently.
4. My mother and I chased sleep all night as the beds are super hard.
5. Only 1 elevator worked during my stay. The line to get on the elevator expanded down the hall in the lobby.
Pros:
1. Beautiful property inside and out
2. Staff was very kind.

When I checked in I didn't realized I booked a room on the sundeck level with no view. The air conditioning was so loud that every time it kicked on it woke me up. When I book online through Expedia I was told me balance was $800. When I checked in it cost me $1020 plus $50/night security deposit and an additional $20/day to park in the parking deck!!

The Hilton Garden Inn at Va. Beach met expectations except for the following:
From lunchtime onward the lobby smells of fried food, particularly fish. Not welcoming.
At check in we were assigned to room 1403, a king bed in a standard room. When I booked the room through Expedia, I specified a King suite because the suite offered a separate room with sofa bed and television. One traveler likes to watch TV until midnight, while the other traveler goes to bed earlier. I believe that I paid for a king suite but since my printed Expedia confirmation receipt stated a King room, I accepted our assigned room. I would like to know in the future if I have to doublecheck what Expedia books on my behalf or run the risk of another miscommunication and disappointment.
