Lübeck Old Town feels like a red-brick fairy tale come to life. Wander cobblestone streets past the twin-towered Holstentor gate and soaring Gothic churches that have stood for centuries. The ornate Rathaus and Buddenbrook House showcase the city's rich Hanseatic heritage. Museum Holstentor and the European Hansemuseum offer fascinating glimpses into medieval merchant life. Traditional North German restaurants serve fresh Baltic seafood and the city's famous marzipan. Most of the historic centre is blissfully car-free, making it perfect for exploring on foot. Boutique hotels in converted merchant houses offer cosy places to rest after a day of sightseeing among these remarkably preserved UNESCO treasures.
St. Lorenz Nord
St. Lorenz Nord balances practical traveller needs with authentic German living. Lübeck's main train station anchors this residential area, perfect for those planning day trips to Hamburg or Kiel. History buffs can easily walk to nearby attractions like Museum Holstentor and the Salt Storage Warehouses. The area offers a genuine glimpse into local German life away from tourist crowds. Budget-friendly hotels and guesthouses cluster near the station, costing significantly less than Old Town options. Morning bakeries and family-run restaurants serve hearty German meals at reasonable prices. The flat terrain makes exploring on foot easy, while excellent train and bus connections put the historic centre just minutes away.

"The hotel is nice and newly renovated. The breakfast was great. My only complaint is that because restaurants close so early in Germany we found ourselves without any access to food upon our arrival. The hotel offers nothing. They should at least have sandwiches or fruit or bread options for those arriving later than 9:30pm. We walked the city looking for open restaurants but found none and we ended up going to bed hungry. Since the hotel is aware of this, they should have options for late arrivals. "
"Hotel is very short walk into town. Dtaff all very polite in texeption. Did find dinner in the restaurant very very slow service but food was excellent. Room with view over river very nice. Cant believe there is no a/c though"
"The hotel was clean and the room, just what I needed. It was confusing checking in with the kiosk, especially since I prepaid through Expedia. There is a sign that directs people to check in at the hotel next door and the front desk staff were nice and professional."
