Friendly team and great facilities. We look forward to coming back when the weather is warmer and the cafe and pool are open. Well equipped kitchen facilities providing 180⁰ views of the mountains whilst cooking. Great location being centrally located on the main road a 5 minute walk from the town centre.

I’m not a hostel person

This is a ‘well-used’ hostel. I probably would not stay here but this is where the group I was travelling with stays. Too basic for me, it might be okay for others.

Needed a bed for short stay in Kaikoura en route to Picton ferry. Dusty Lodge was available, pet friendly and the lower end of budget. Arrived after reception shut but they had left key and instructions to room. It was very small especially considering we paid $20 extra for a dog but was equipped with a tv, fan, stools, desk and plenty of hooks which I like for hanging bags, leashes, coats etc. Could see a pool, spa and sauna plus 2 kitchens which we didn't have time to use. Not used to sharing a bathroom with strangers so that was a big minus - reason why I wouldn't likely book again. Nice walking distance to dairy open til 11pm and next morning to bakery for coffee and scone.

Not impressed about their cleanliness

The hostel didn’t change the pillow cases, I’ve found several hair on all of pillows from previous guests stayed. Not sure about if they’ve changed the bedsheets. The wall is quite thin, You can hear TV noise from the room next to you when sleeping.

The water was hot in the shower - very much appreciated. We found getting an e-mail at 5.00pm on the day of arrival with details wasn't really reassuring as to whether or not we still had a room for the night! Also the instructions on the sheet could afford to be more specific so that guests can be as helpful as possible - e.g. we were asked to strip the bed and put the sheets in the foyer - no mention of the towels. Only after we'd returned to key to the box did we discover we should have also brought the towels down. As well the cleanliness needed to be improved. The shower was very dirty around the edges of the base. It would be good to see fans in the showers - or some kind of shower hood to keep the steam in the area.

Great, highly recommended!

My stuff was perfect, i wish I stay longer. Cheap price and really nice stay. Bbq, pool, quiet, nice staff. At the beginning when I arrived with the bus, i thought omg... this is to far from in town.. but not at all. easy walking to restaurants and beach and grocery. Big mentionne to Greta and Sean who really make a difference, they where great, really helful, always really happy to assist with all the question or needed. It male a big difference on your stay when poeple are happy to help you. You can see that the team who work at Dusgy are happy. (i stay to other hostel that unfortunately.. staff make you feel that you disturbed them when you ask a questions, or even they dont help at all..) what is NOT THE CASE WITH THIS PLACE. They are nice and reallly really FRIEMDLY AND HELPFULL. Thank you ! The pool and the bbq is great, i wish that we can use the big kitchen but was almost always reserve for group. But notthing else to say about this hostel is great. Stay longer there guys and emjoy your time.

Les horaires sur la porte indiquaient fermeture à 17h… soit mais je suis arrivée avant 17h de toute façon. J’ai tenté de les appeler, sans réponse… J’ai du trouver un autre hébergement en urgence, merci !!!
