La Isla is where Cancun shows off its glamorous side with endless sunshine and sparkling blue waters. You can shop at the open-air La Isla Shopping Village, get up close with sea creatures at the interactive aquarium, or simply sprawl out on pristine Caribbean beaches. The marina's luxury yachts bob alongside waterfront restaurants while the Nicupté Lagoon offers peaceful kayaking adventures away from the beach crowds. Hotels here range from high-end resorts to boutique properties with beachfront access and infinity pools. Getting around is a breeze with buses running every 10-15 minutes along Boulevard Kukulcán or you can rent a golf cart for shorter trips. Most venues stay open from late morning until midnight, perfect for dining on fresh ceviche or sipping craft cocktails.
Avenida Tulum buzzes with the energy of Cancun's beating heart, connecting city centre with the famous Hotel Zone. Spend your days browsing colourful market stalls at Mercado Ki Huic or trying your luck at Royal Yak Casino. Dining options range from authentic taquerias serving cochinita pibil to tourist-friendly spots with fresh ceviche. Mid-range hotels and business lodges provide comfortable bases for exploration, while frequent buses and abundant taxis make getting around a breeze. Bask on pristine white-sand beaches lapped by the Caribbean's impossibly turquoise waters. Dive into ancient cenotes or explore Mayan ruins before dancing at beachfront clubs 'til sunrise.
Cancun's actually a bargain. The sea and sand are quite beautiful and most of the hotels are reasonably priced. It's a good place to chill but also has some fabulous Mayan architectural sites and some lovely Spanish colonial cities that are close by.

over the years Cancun has been doing more to create a more walk friendly and bike friendly environment which I appreciate. I only wish more people would realize how much easier it can be to use public transportation, walk and bike rather than car.

If travelling independently on a budget I would always stay in Cancun downtown. There are markets, dining and transport links within walking distance and the R1 bus is only $12Mex to Zona Hotelera and any beach you want on that stretch.

Cancun has best flight prices and is best launch pad if you want to see all the Yucatan has to offer. Ride the MAYAN TREN (Train) it makes Amtrak look bad.. lol seriously go to chichen Itza , valladolid, Merida, you won't regret it.

Highly recommend booking hotel transportation before arriving or the taxis will take advantage of you - they were charging USD$110 for a 20 minute, one way trip. Hotel arranged transport was $85 roundtrip.

Good beach destination with excellent choices of hotels and restaurants. Very good infrastructure of tourist services for nearby archaeological and natural sites like Chinchen Itzá or the cenotes.

Cancun was amazing, I would say if you want to get an overall experience stay downtown and if you want to enjoy mostly the beach then a resort in zone hotelera can be your best option.

Pleasant enough city with some good shopping, but it's really all about the beaches and pools and activities like water parks, snorkeling, sailing, etc. Hot weather every day!
