Basically the resort is very nice. We loved where our room was located and the food choices were good. However, my biggest disappointment and complaint (we spoke to the management several times about this) was the smoking that was allowed in the entrances to the resort. Coming from the rooms, there is only one way to enter the resort. There were many signs posted for NO SMOKING and there was even special area set aside out of the mainstream for the smokers. However, EVERY time we were trying to enter the main facility, there was a pack of smokers standing there blocking the entrance smoking. Also, the smoke drifted into the main lobby and made it unusable. We heard several other patrons complaining about the smoking. I have a sever allergy to smoke and this was very distressing. I couldn't go anywhere without my inhaler for fear of an asthma attack due to the smokers. When we brought this to the attention of the management, their response was "well they are outside and the smokers have right too!" This was unacceptable! Nothing was ever done to ask them to move or to deter the smokers from smoking anywhere they wanted to. We will never return to a RIU property because of this issue.

Staff go above and beyond from house keeping to the entertainment staff. Only negative is there could be more rest rooms around the main restaurant area. They get very busy on a evening.

This property was very nice, clean, pools were nice and beach was not far at all. My only complaint would be the food and drinks. Buffet was ok, specialty restaurants were not good at all with very limited selection. All bottom shelf wine & liquor.

Here’s a brief review you could use: The service at this resort was extremely disappointing. Staff were unhelpful and inattentive, and basic requests were often ignored or took way too long to fulfill. For the price we paid, we expected much better treatment and responsiveness. I would not recommend this place if you’re looking for a relaxing and hassle-free experience.

I stayed at Riu Tequila for 2 nights. The pools and grounds are excellent!. The staff is exceptional. The hotel is consisted of many 2 level brick/ concrete buildings. Its very noisy at night. I was way in the back in villa 10 but it didn't matter. Mabey get a top floor because being on bottom floor you hear the constant moving of tables and chairs and its amplified through the concrete ceiling above. The halls are like a echo chamber with door slamming and and people talking at all hours. Bring ear plugs. There is a sweet spot between 5am and 7am where it is quiet. I was over the food quality and selection after my 2 night stay.

We were actually transferred to Riu playacar, that is 2 min down the road. We were told it was an upgrade, at first we thought it was as we had access to the beach on our resort, but the room didn't seem as updated as Tequila rooms did. Most of the staff were nice. One thing I noticed right away, they don't have staff escort you to the room or take your luggage. We did have access to go back and forth to Riu tequila but only between the hours of 11am-3pm and on the white party night. The food, it was ok. I have a sea food allergies so I have to be careful whit what I eat. The signs over the food would have pictures like a fish, chicken or cow but come to find out that if a station has anything that is fried it's all fried in the same oil. So cross contamination all over the place. I couldn't even have mozzarella sticks because they fried a shrimp empanada in the same oil. So there was a lot of food that I couldn't eat. Very disappointed. The pools and beach were very beautiful. The don't have any top shelf liquor. And they mix the different tequilas.

Our "villa" was clean and spacious enough with a decent view over the property. In fqct , the only issue would be with other tourists - the ones who spoil it for everyone else coming back loud and drunk, arguing with whomever they're with. Food was ok, the worst experience was at the "Bamboo" restaurant where I tried the Paneer Masala dish, an Indian food of cheese cubes in a spicy sauce. However, this turned out to be tofu instead. I comlained to the waiter who said he would talk to the chef. I didn't hear back. Who knows, maybe the chef had no idea what Paneer Masala was... The beach is about a seven minute walk away, you can use the facilities of the hotel there, the pool and the restaurant - but that does not extend to giving you a towel! Remember to take your own from the Tequila. Beach is good, disapponting to get so many hawkers coming by to sell trinkets to you. I counted 9 in the first hour we were there one day Lots of Capybaras and Coatis wander around the property, they're fun to watch.

Loved the pools. Plenty of room and chairs around the pools. It was never hard to find a spot. Staff was friendly and helpful. The entertainment was great I just would have liked to see more of it offered. I didn’t like that you had to pay to play billiards in the sports bar….I think that should be free….all inclusive.
