Step back in time along Hoi An Ancient Town's lantern-lit streets, where 15th-century merchant houses meet Chinese temples. The Japanese Covered Bridge stands as a weathered wooden sentinel while artisans practice traditional crafts like lantern-making and woodcarving. Markets buzz with local vendors selling handmade textiles and street food, creating a living museum where Vietnam's rich heritage thrives. Riverside restaurants serve cao lau noodles and fresh seafood as boats drift along the Thu Bon River. Most travellers explore on foot or bicycle, with motorbike taxis available for longer journeys. Boutique hotels in restored merchant houses offer authentic stays, perfectly positioned to experience the magic of this UNESCO treasure.
Cam Chau offers a quiet glimpse into authentic Vietnamese life just outside bustling Hoi An Ancient Town. Traditional homes line peaceful streets where local routines unfold at family-run eateries and morning markets. Riverside paths along the Thu Bon provide perfect spots for contemplative walks while small fishing docks showcase the area's connection to water. Budget-friendly homestays and guesthouses create intimate lodging experiences with personal touches and home-cooked breakfasts. Getting around is simple with rental bikes from accommodation or a pleasant 15-minute walk to Hoi An's centre. The area quiets considerably after dark, making it perfect for travellers seeking genuine cultural immersion without tourist crowds.
Cam Thanh
Cam Thanh wraps you in the warm embrace of rural Vietnamese life where time moves at the pace of the gently flowing Thu Bon River. Jump into a traditional basket boat and glide through lush coconut palm forests that create natural tunnels over narrow waterways. Discover local artisans weaving iconic round boats and families tending organic gardens with techniques passed down for generations. Family-run eateries serve fresh river fish and coconut-based dishes straight from home kitchens. Choose between rustic homestays with local families or eco-lodges with river views for an authentic overnight experience. Most visitors arrive via tours from nearby Hoi An, though bicycles make exploring the palm groves and dirt paths a peaceful adventure.
Cam Pho
Cam Pho embraces you with riverside charm, where the Thu Bon River flows past traditional wooden shophouses and ancient banyan trees. Local artisans craft colourful lanterns and pottery in workshops you can peek into. The neighborhood's heartbeat is Cam Pho Market, a maze of stalls selling fresh herbs, tropical fruits, and handwoven textiles. Family-run eateries serve authentic cao lau noodles and white rose dumplings at wallet-friendly prices. Traditional Vietnamese guesthouses and homestays offer a genuine cultural experience with meals often included. Getting around is easy on foot, or grab a bicycle to explore the wider area.
Hoi An City Centre
Hoi An City Centre's lantern-lit streets tell stories of ancient trade through exceptionally preserved architecture. The iconic Japanese Covered Bridge stands proudly alongside ornate Chinese assembly halls showcasing intricate woodcarvings. Colourful silk lanterns cast magical shadows as you wander cobblestone streets lined with mustard-yellow colonial buildings. The Central Market buzzes with tailor shops where custom clothing appears within 24 hours. Street vendors serve mouthwatering cao lau noodles and white rose dumplings throughout the day. Riverside restaurants offer fresh seafood with views of the Thu Bon River. This UNESCO-protected quarter is best explored on foot, with most attractions within a 10-minute stroll of each other.
If you can't wait to get to the beach, you might enjoy a trip to My Khe Beach – one of the most popular seaside spots located 2 mi (3.2 km) from central Da Nang. If you want to continue walking by the waves, head to Pham Van Dong Beach located nearby.
An Bang Beach is located 13.3 mi (21.4 km) from the centre of Da Nang, why not stop by during your stay? If you want to continue walking by the waves, head to Cua Dai Beach and Ha My Beach.
Wander ancient streets lined with colourful lantern-lit shops and centuries-old Chinese merchant houses. Sample banh mi from street carts before taking a sunset boat ride along the Thu Bon River.
We enjoyed exploring by day especially early morning. The character changed at night to be more of a Disneyland- complete with actors dressed as Mickey Mouse! Way too many tourists .. packed. But we found some cute restaurants and less touristy.

Hoi An is a very fun little town and there's lots to do and checkout. Beach is a short hop away and it had a great night life scene while we were there as well. Take advantage of the custom tailors in the area but check prices and haggle.

The local Hoi An food is so tasty! It's unfortunately very touristy compared to Da Nang but if you stick to the places where the locals hang out you can get incredible food for cheap and the tastiest fruit in the whole of Vietnam

My third time to Hoi An. Getting crowded but still magical. Staying at the beach and traveling into town gives you the best of both worlds. I highly recommend renting a motorbike to tour the easily accessible countryside.

H·ªôi An is surprisingly welcoming to English- and Korean-speaking foreigners. The Old Town is a one-of-a-kind tourist experience with excellent dining options. Even vegetarians have a tremendous variety available.

Interesting city with plenty to do, I recommend the Bamboo Circus and Memories of Hoi An shows.
"Pleasant stay in the heart of Hoi An, just right across Hoi An Ancient town. Service staff were all very friendly! Rooms were comfortable and very clean as well. "
"Amazing hotel with dedicated staff! Never have I experience such amazing service at any hotel - I’ve stayed in hotels all over the world and in five stars too but this level of attention was something else ! Also the buffet rocks ! Convenient area - best staff! I will stay again !"
"Unbelievable stay once again ! U won’t get better in Hoi an !! It’s a little oasis in the busy town !! As returning guests we got an upgrade again and Chloe who checked us in was fantastic ! Make sure u book a suite so u can have breakfast in the less busy temple restaurant … food selection was outstanding and all the staff are friendly and attentive… nothing to fault again !!! "
"Charming, quiet property with great breakfast buffet (including for vegans, with items marked). Water provided through water cooler, which is better than plastic bottles, both for the environment, and as the weather is very hot and we needed to drink a lot of water. A bit out of the way from Hoi An old city, but still walkable."
"This hotel is a great place to relax. Great pool. Breakfast has plenty of options. It is a ten minute drive to Hoi An old town. The staff are friendly and helpful. Perfect for families. "
"Our stay at Allegro was phenomenal. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was super delicious. We definitely would stay at Allegro again!"
"Good Place to stay, property shows signs of aging but overall better than many. Clean, staff are great, its a good place to relax knowing its at the end of Hoi An which there are no more tourist spots around, not a lot of people outside and its secluded. Has a private beach so no need to go to An Bang"
"We are travelling around Vietnam and have stayed in many hotels. THIS IS THE BEST ONE YET! 10/10. Beautiful rooms: free drinks (Coke Zero) in mini bar and the 2 pools were so luxurious! Staff wonderful in the check in area and the doormen so polite. A good location: near river & on the edge of tourist area/only 10 min walk in a straight line to the busy touristy stuff.
The cleaning staff were a bit noisy at 8 am in the hallway today (we had wanted a lie in!). Got free chocs last night, however, as they did their turn down service!
Breakfast was every food u could want! Staff there great/so hard working!
My only disappointment was we had no balcony and it would have been useful to dry our swimming costumes on one after a swim just before we left. But that was Hotels.com at fault, as I showed the receptionist my phone app saying we should have a balcony and she said none of the rooms for 2 had balconies so it was not the hotel who had made that wrong statement.
