The North Bund

The North Bund mixes Shanghai's old-world charm with its ambitious future along the Huangpu River. Stroll the waterfront promenade for jaw-dropping views of Pudong's skyline that'll make your Instagram followers jealous. History buffs can explore the art deco Broadway Mansions and the former Japanese Consulate while photographers capture the perfect sunset over the water. Don't miss the moving exhibits at the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum. Getting around is a breeze with three metro stations connecting you to the city's best spots. After dark, sip cocktails at sleek rooftop bars with million-dollar views. High-end hotels and serviced apartments cater to comfort-seekers, though budget travellers might want to stay elsewhere and just visit for the spectacular riverfront experience.

Lujiazui

Lujiazui's sky-scraping financial district is where Shanghai flexes its futuristic muscles. The iconic Oriental Pearl Tower glows against a backdrop of glass giants like Shanghai Tower and Jin Mao Tower. Take a breather at Lujiazui Central Green Space or snap those classic skyline shots along the riverside promenade with views of the historic Bund across the water. Dining options range from Michelin-starred restaurants in luxury hotels to international cuisine in gleaming malls like IFC and Super Brand. Getting around is a breeze with multiple metro stations and elevated walkways connecting major buildings. Most visitors stay in upscale business hotels with river views and executive perks.

Xintiandi

Xintiandi blends Shanghai's past and present through beautifully preserved Shikumen stone-gate houses now filled with upscale shops and art galleries. Pedestrian-only streets invite leisurely exploration between boutiques, while the Shikumen Open House Museum offers glimpses into traditional Shanghai life. Tree-lined walkways connect stylish rooftop terraces where you can people-watch above the fashionable crowds below. Dining options range from Michelin-starred restaurants to trendy cocktail bars, with most venues requiring reservations. Luxury boutique hotels occupy renovated historic buildings throughout the area. The nearby Taipingqiao Park provides a green escape, and Metro Lines 1 and 10 make getting around the city a breeze.

Downtown Shanghai

City centre Shanghai dazzles with its perfect split personality. The historic Bund waterfront flaunts colonial grandeur while facing off against Pudong's futuristic skyline across the Huangpu River. Stroll the riverside promenade for jaw-dropping views or explore traditional temples tucked between modern skyscrapers. The area buzzes with energy from dawn till well after dark. From upscale international cuisine to authentic xiaolongbao dumplings, the food scene caters to all tastes. Luxury hotels and boutiques line Nanjing Road's bustling pedestrian mall. Getting around is a breeze with multiple metro stations and the scenic Puxi Tram connecting major attractions.

Pudong

Pudong's futuristic skyline dazzles with architectural wonders like the twisting Shanghai Tower and the space-age Oriental Pearl Tower. Shanghai Disneyland brings theme park thrills, while the sprawling Shanghai Wild Animal Park offers a different kind of adventure. The area balances business buzz with tourist attractions, from high-end shopping at IFC Mall to cultural exhibits at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. Dining options range from luxe tower restaurants to mall food courts, all catering to business travellers and families alike. Five-star hotels dominate the accommodation scene with skyline views worth every penny. Getting around is a breeze with multiple metro stations connecting you to Shanghai's best sights.

Pudong Shangri-La, Shanghai

Pudong Shangri-La, Shanghai

10/10 Excellent
"This was our second time staying at a Shangri-La, and it certainly did not disappoint! We previously stayed at the Shangri-La in Singapore three years ago, and this time we stayed at the Shanghai property. The hotel is beautiful, clean, spacious, and incredibly well located. It is close to the Oriental Pearl Tower and on the quieter side of the Bund, making it a lovely location for exploring the area and enjoying the boat trips along the Bund. After a busy day out, it was always a pleasure to return to the hotel. Our room was lovely and spacious, and the overall atmosphere was very comfortable. The staff were generally friendly, although we felt the service in the Singapore branch was slightly better. That said, the breakfast staff were exceptional. We had specific dietary requirements, and the breakfast team went above and beyond to help us. They personally walked us around to explain the different options, brought in the chef to speak with us, and gave us advice on what would be suitable. They were genuinely so kind and accommodating, which we really appreciated. The hotel was also very kind in allowing us to keep our dietary food in their fridge, as the fridge in our room was more of a cool box than a proper fridge. Overall, we had a wonderful stay. The incredible location, beautiful spacious rooms, and the kindness of the breakfast team made it a pleasure to stay here. We would definitely consider returning to Shangri-La again!"

"Hotel is fine, room had a wonderful view, location was very convenient as well. The hotel rooms are old. Which might look like the marble in the bathroom is kind of moldy, worn off. Rooms are small too, not a convenient layout. Other than that the stay was great. Staff is exceptional."

During this time, visitors can explore museums, temples, and monuments, as well as enjoy shopping, dining, and sightseeing in natural parks. This duration allows for a great value for money while immersing oneself in the rich history and culture of Shanghai.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: Using Hotels.com, travellers to Shanghai may discover attractive hotel deals through the DealsOpens in a new window section, where discounted rates could be available. 3. Be flexible with dates: Prices may vary depending on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and time of year, so being flexible with your dates might help you save on your stay in a Shanghai hotel. For those in search of unique experiences, boutique hotels can provide a more personalised touch and potentially better value. When booking with Hotels.com, we will inform you if the price for your selected dates is above or below the average, and if it appears to be on the higher side, we may suggest more affordable dates to help you find a better deal.
  4. Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but thanks to Shanghai's superb public transport network, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel further afield that remains well connected. For those keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
