We stayed at the new guest house above the 1/2 Crown & Pub, apparently the first ones to do so. The room was brand new. It was very clean, nicely put together, and had updated touches. The only gripe I had about the room is that it was small and the bathroom has a barn door, which can be a little awkward when it's more than one person staying in the room. Anyway, when we arrived at the Crown Pub, we were instantly greeted and checked-in and our host was enthusiastic, which was well appreciated. We ended up hanging around with the regulars and had a few pints.
Later when we came back, we spent some time at the 1/2 Crown downstairs and again, had a really good time. Our host was there behind the bar and everyone treated us well. The experience was great so far.
So I understand we're staying at a guest house at a pub, and it was a Friday night. We were expecting it to be noisy a bit late as people are starting their weekend. I even asked the bartender when they'd be shutting down. I was informed around midnight...
Until we were subjected to a group blasting disco, dancing until 3:15am. I don't think they would've stopped until I went downstairs to ask them to. The obviously drunk guy I talked to was very rude and condescending, but the host finally popped out and asked if it was too loud and turned it down. Neither my partner or I got much sleep that night. I'm not sure why they thought it was acceptable to do that to their brand new guests, but that was our experience.
