Good place to stay as a base
I have stayed here twice before. The welcome from Lyndon is great. The breakfast is freshly cooked and plenty of it. Beds are comfortable and the bathroom was clean. However the wardrobe was in need of repair and the fridge had old food in it. The bedside cabinets had a layer of dust but I base my review on comfort and hospitality

Amazing Place to Stay
Had an amazing stay here at Gail’s Guest House. Arrival and check in are is super efficient and staff are lovely. We (3 adults) stayed in the Family Room and it was perfect for us. Price is so affordable and the breakfast is as amazing as everything else there! Would 100% stay again and already planning our next trip there!

Owner welcoming and accommodating in every way. Just felt a bit unloved with cleanliness in rooms. Comfortable but broken light fittings and just missing stars for cleanliness

Lovely little guest house with the convenience of a little shop few doors down. It was close to the train station with the fun fair and beachfront over the road( so everything within short walks) lovely and clean, great breakfast choices! Very friendly staff and added bonus of a mini fridge and fan. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would return and recommend.

Perfect for barry island and cardiff.
We stayed to go to the rugby at the principality stadium.perfect location as it was 5min from the train station. The staff/owners were so friendly and the bed was really comfy! The room was clean and spot on for what we wanted and the breakfast was fab!. Next time we are down this way we will definitely be re-booking!

Lovely guest house, would recommend.
We had a lovely stay at Gails. I received a phonecall earlier in the day from Lucy to say that the boiler was not working and they were unable to get anyone to fix it so they would be refunding us half of the cost back which was very nice of them as this was not their fault and these things happen. Checking in was easy, parking was fine, the room was lovely, comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. Breakfast was included and was very nice. If i'm ever in Barry again I would definitely stay at Gail's again. Thank you for a lovely stay :)

One night only
Bed against wall on one side. Room was not modern looking like photos. Clean and excellent breakfast with excellent service. Very few options for accommodation in Barry.

We arrived before check-in but were told our room was ready and we could go straight up. The room was light and airy and clean and modern. Lucy our host was friendly and very welcoming. We chose our breakfast for the next day but changed our minds at last minute. Lucy was very accommodating and met our wishes without fuss. I would highly recommend a stay if you want somewhere on Barry Island close to the beach literally 10 minutes walk.

4/10 Fair

Pleasant but work needed
No greeting on arrival, just a few notes regarding door keys, breakfast order a drawn diagram showing limited parking choices. Bed was comfortable. Could probably do with a lampshade over bare bulb in the bedroom. Breakfast not great… the cooking was performed in the kitchen which was part of the dining area ( food boxes stored under the serving table) low quality ingredients, shame. The guest house frontage including the dining area/ kitchen needs some updating.

Room was comfortable but needed a really good deep clean - dust everywhere - the fan could not be used as it was so clogged up. Owner did replace it with another fan which was also dusty! Net curtains were ripped and needed a jolly good wash. Breakfast was delicious.

Misleading free parking!
Quite an old building with maybe 8 rooms spread over 3 floors with steep stairs. Generally happy but I feel the parking claim is very misleading hence my lower rating. "Free' parking is just street parking and there is not that much of it, so you could be unlucky, though we came back early so we were ok.
Brian, 2-night trip

8/10 Very good

Very convenient for the beach and Pleasure Park. Clean and tidy rooms modern decor. The TV didn’t work and Lyndon couldn’t get it working. Maybe a problem with the aerial? Radiator was hot when we got there after 4pm despite it being 23 degrees outside. Breakfast okay, nothing special. Better quality sausage would have been nice and more, thinner, brown toast.

Arrived late was our Fault, but didn’t realize, missed orders for breakfast until went to Dining room next morning. We were told no cooked breakfast for us , because need to arrange before the day. Ready? Just frying bacon , eggs …nothing complicated. Just gave us toast and coffee. If you are booking there, make sure arrived early , if you’re the breakfast person!

4/10 Fair

shower stall had mold all around the bottom and up between some of the tiles. I have asthma so didn’t want to take a shower. Since that is the last place we stayed prior to leaving Wales, I found most of my clothes in the luggage had a mildew smell. I knew it was on the 3rd floor with no elevator but the steps are very narrow to lug luggage up. tiny room with difficulty maneuvering around. would not go again and not recommend. I was also disappointed that I had sent an email a few weeks before coming to Wales to find out what kind of transportation would be available at 3:00 am when we had to leave for the airport and got no response. No directions on where to leave keys when leaving so left them at desk in hallway—no security.

Avoid - Especially if you are driving
Unbelievable stay.... Guest house states free parking, but don't say that if you park in front of the property you get a ticket, despite there being no actual yellow lines. I parked outside when I got there and unloaded my luggage. When I went in the property you were not greeted by anyone, just your keys left on a table in the hall. This was despite people being there, as I could hear them. I went out for the night, when I got back I had a parking ticket. I saw the manager (at last !) and he said I shouldn't have parked there as it is residents only, and there was a sign up the road saying this - something I didn't see, as I was trying to find the property when I first arrived. Maybe, if they had the courtesy to greet you upon arrival they could inform you of this, or even if they don't want to do this, they could leave a notice in the hallway. The ironic thing is that I only had to park fifteen yards further up the road and I would have been out of the restricted area. On a more general note this place is very poor value for money. The frontage has to be seen to be believed. I travel on a weekly basis and have never experienced such poor customer service.
