Foodies flock here for the legendary pintxos crawl - this area boasts the highest concentration of bars per square metre in Spain. The area's honey-colored stone buildings with wrought-iron balconies create a magical backdrop for evening adventures. Traditional taverns pour txakoli wine from impressive heights while serving up mouthwatering small plates. Though cobblestones can be challenging to navigate, the compact historic quarter rewards explorers with authentic Basque experiences just steps from La Concha Bay.

Gros
Gros brings surf culture and Basque charm together on San Sebastián's golden shores. Catch waves at Zurriola Beach while the striking glass Kursaal Congress Centre reflects the sun overhead. The food scene revolves around traditional pintxos and fresh seafood in casual eateries throughout the area. Modern apartments and boutique hotels offer comfortable stays with beachfront views. Getting around is a breeze with excellent walkability and regular bus service connecting you to San Sebastián's highlights.

San Sebastián Centro
San Sebastián Centro serves up stunning Belle Époque architecture alongside golden beaches and mouthwatering food. Stroll the curved La Concha promenade for jaw-dropping bay views or duck into narrow streets where pintxos bars overflow with bite-sized Basque delicacies. The Gothic Cathedral of the Good Shepherd stands tall among cobblestone streets and elegant plazas where locals play cards under wrought-iron balconies. The area is blissfully walkable with most attractions just ten minutes apart on foot. Boutique hotels in historic buildings offer character-filled stays with ocean views. When hunger strikes, choose between casual taverns serving traditional Basque dishes or splurge on world-class dining experiences that put this food-obsessed city on the culinary map.

Amara
Amara gives you a front-row seat to authentic Basque life without the tourist crowds. This residential area is home to San Sebastián's main train station, tree-lined streets, and the peaceful Cristina Enea Park with its serene duck ponds. Sports fans can catch local action at Reale Arena while those seeking greenery will appreciate Parque Aiete's walking paths. Family-run restaurants serve hearty pintxos at prices that won't break the bank. You'll find comfortable, budget-friendly apartments and guesthouses tucked into residential buildings. Getting around is a breeze with frequent buses connecting to the beaches and Old Town just minutes away.

Hotel Maria Cristina, a Luxury Collection Hotel
"Great hotel in a great location. Staff were amazing and helpful. Highly recommended!"
Hotel Palacio Bellas Artes San Sebastián, Curio Collection by Hilton
"This is the best choice for a Hotel if you are not staying at the Maria Cristina. Newly remodeled (July 2016) 5-star Hilton hotel with 6-star service. Modern, clean and comfortable. It has all the amenities you will want. Limitations, the restaurant staff is very nice and the service is great, but the menu is limited. We stayed with a family group and some of the rooms have slight noise from the street. But, you can't beat the value and attention you will receive from arrival to departure."
The Social Hub San Sebastián
"Interesting concept for modern accommodation. Everything seems to flow seamlessly. Clean, functional, and generously sized rooms. The free laundry allowed us to catch up on our washing on a 6 week tour of France & Spain. Some reviews seem to focus on the 30 minute walk to the old town. We took the 10 minute bus ride from behind the hotel for 1.9 euro everyday. Just tap on with your credit card. Breakfast looked good but we never tried. Gym was well fitted out and rooms quiet."
Sercotel Hotel Europa
"Good value, great team there."
Barceló Costa Vasca
"Our stay at the Barcelo Costa Basca was simply perfect. The beds are super confortables, the staff’s cordiality is unmatched and the food was glorious. The gym and spa are a great complement to our guest experience. Only low point were a few minor maintenance issues in our room, but overall the best hotel in our trip so far. Thanks Barcelo, Nacho, Cristina and the crew for a wonderful stay!"
Colectia Hotel Urumea
"This property was in a great location to walk along the river to the station and to old town. We enjoyed our walks every time. We spent most of our time in old town or taking day trips from the station, so the location was perfect. The price was right for what the hotel provided."
Intelier Victoria Hotel by Intelier Hotels & Suites
"Excelente servicio y la habitación muy buen. Desayuno muy bueno."
Catalonia Donosti
"The hotel was well positioned and had an amazing terrace area with incredible views of San Sebastián"

For a comprehensive exploration of the city's rich history, landmarks and cultural attractions—including its beautiful beach, cosy cafes, lively bars, and engaging walking tours—a stay of at least 2 to 3 days is ideal, offering great value for money and an affordable escape.
- Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To discover last-minute deals for hotels in San Sebastián, visit the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute Deals sections on Hotels.com, where you may find discounted rates as your travel date approaches. The Smart Shopping tool available via the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you’re well-informed. - Be flexible with dates: Prices may differ depending on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and time of year. Being flexible with your travel dates may help you save on your stay in a San Sebastián hotel. For those seeking unique experiences, boutique hotels can provide a more personalised experience and sometimes better value. When you book with Hotels.com, we will inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average, and if it appears to be on the higher side, we might suggest more affordable dates to help you potentially find a better deal.
- Consider your location: Hotels in close proximity to the city centre tend to be more expensive, yet thanks to San Sebastián's superb public transport links, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel further afield that remains well-connected. For those keen to explore alternative, less congested neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is frequently excellent value for money. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
