We loved the place, but the people who run it take it to another level. We thought they were rather awesome.

Beautiful building, friendly people
The historic inn is quite beautiful, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The room was a bit small and didn't have much atmosphere, but comfortable.

The property is very old and has wonderful charm , everything creaked so everyone could hear you walk tthe room or enjoy any extra curricular activity 😂.What I didn’t like was there was a code to get in the Inn after 10 pm which was written on a brochure in our room , that we knew nothing about , so we got locked out the first nite after traveling from New York , nobody answered the hotel phone or both of their emergency numbers , so we slept in the car for a few hours until we could get in touch with family mikes away

A very nice country Inn
A very pleasant stay in a quirky old building. Large, clean room. Very comfortable bed. Great cooked to order breakfast. Also had a few pints and dinner in the pub/restaurant within the Inn. It's a few miles from any village but with the facilities there is no need to venture back out for dinner.

Beautiful hotel on English/Welsh border
Great place in historic Herefordshire.
You can walk south to Wales in 2 minutes or head north to Hereford and this makes Rhydspence quite unique.
The old pub is very quaint and in my view would benefit from more comfortable seating, but apart from that is very warm and welcoming.

Fantastic service and food. Wonderful English breakfasts in the morning. Very friendly, helpful people; when I notified them about something of sentimental value that I had left behind they emailed straight away to say that they had found it and posted it that same day! Room and ensuite were spotless.
The only drawback for me was that we had a room that overlooked a road that is one of the main routes leading to West and South Wales. HGV's do pass throughout the night - and did wake me up. However, in the hotel's defence, I am a very light sleeper and do live on a farm in the middle of nowhere, so ANY noise at night wakes me up. I should say that my husband heard nothing! Apart from that, I can't recommend it enough.

Far from the madding crowd
We sat in the garden under the shade of an umbrella, listening to a nearby babbling brook, watching house martins on the wing and reading. Absolute bliss. The owners were always on hand and even brought our cafetières to us. The bedroom was so spatial and beautifully furnished and the bathroom was spotless. We ate in the restaurant on 2 evenings and the food produced was of a high standard and the breakfasts were delicious. We only stayed 2 nights here however we didn’t want to leave and would thoroughly recommend this Inn.

Lovely spot
Business trip, lovely hosts and lovely locals.
Fine food and amazing cider. I would go back for the cider alone.
The building is as old as time, but the room was absolutely pristine, bright and only a recent installation so you get the best of both worlds. Loooooots of outdoor activities in the area

Comfort and cuisine just outside Hay
We have stayed many times in and around Hay-on-Wye but this was our first time at the Rhyddspence Inn. As other reviewers have mentioned we had a warm and friendly welcome and our room at the front of the building was like andheri with a lovely view of hills opposite. The bedding was very comfortable with crisp clean sheets and a nice spacious bathroom with plenty of hot water.
The breakfasts were really first-rate with fantastic local produce especially the sausages. We also ate in the restaurant at in the evening and had high quality meals.
Of course it's just a short drive to pay itself and as well as books shopping there are also many very nice specialist shops and it is particularly good for homeware and garden ornaments. Of course there's plenty of other things to do including canoeing kayaking and many splendid walks.
We are frequent visitors to this area and will definitely stay at the Rhyddspence Inn again.
