Old Town Alexandria
King Street's cobblestone charm whispers stories of founding fathers between boutique-filled 18th-century townhouses and waterfront cafes. Spend your day hopping between artist studios at the Torpedo Factory, wandering through Gadsby's Tavern where George Washington once dined, or catching Potomac views from the scenic promenade. Christ Church's colonial spire and the Georgian Carlyle House offer perfect photo ops for history buffs. Get around on the free King Street Trolley that shuttles visitors along the main corridor every 15 minutes. Colonial taverns serve up crab cakes alongside modern bistros, while boutiques showcase everything from handmade pottery to Revolutionary War memorabilia. Most historic buildings have limited accessibility due to preservation requirements.

Del Ray
Del Ray welcomes you with its quirky small-town vibe just minutes from DC's chaos. Mount Vernon Avenue forms the neighborhood's beating heart, lined with colourful Victorian shopfronts housing independent bookshops and cosy cafes. Locals gather at Pat Miller Square for community events, while tree-canopied streets showcase charming early 20th-century homes with wraparound porches. The dining scene offers everything from farm-to-table bistros to ethnic eateries with reasonable prices. Most shops and restaurants operate Tuesday through Sunday, with limited Monday hours. While there aren't many hotels directly in Del Ray, you'll find boutique B&Bs and holiday rentals in historic homes nearby.

Eisenhower East
Eisenhower East combines corporate cool with unexpected cultural gems. The US Patent and Trademark Office anchors this modern district where innovation is celebrated at the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Business travellers appreciate the sleek office towers and wide boulevards, while history buffs can easily visit nearby Alexandria National Cemetery and Masonic Memorial. Grab lunch at upscale chain restaurants during weekdays when the area buzzes with professionals. Extended-stay hotels with kitchenettes make perfect bases for work trips. The Eisenhower Avenue Metro Station puts you just 20 minutes from DC attractions with trains running every 6-12 minutes during peak hours.

Old Town West
Old Town West offers a delightful journey through Alexandria's colonial past with its well-preserved architecture and cobblestone streets. The Alexandria Black History Museum and Resource Centre provide fascinating glimpses into the area's rich cultural heritage. Visitors can explore the charming residential streets where historic townhouses create an authentic area feel away from tourist crowds. The area boasts excellent walkability with brick pavements connecting cosy cafes and local shops. Braddock Road Metro Station makes getting around easy, while the neighborhood's peaceful tree-lined streets offer a welcome retreat after days spent discovering Alexandria's maritime history and colonial landmarks.
National Landing
The National Landing neighbourhood offers attractions, such as Fashion Center at Pentagon City and Lucky Strike Arlington.

Learn more about Alexandria
Cobblestone streets wind through Old Town, where 18th-century townhouses stand as elegant reminders of America's early days. Duck into local boutiques or watch artists at work in the Torpedo Factory Art Centre, where former munitions workshops now house creative studios. George Washington's Mount Vernon estate offers a glimpse into the first president's home life, complete with meticulous gardens and Potomac River views. The tiny Spite House, barely seven feet wide, proves that real estate feuds have always existed. Market Square buzzes with activity, while the Lyceum's exhibits illuminate Alexandria's complex past. For a taste of local flavour, explore the Del Ray area where family-owned restaurants serve everything from gourmet comfort food to international cuisine.

Quality Inn Mt. Vernon
"This hotel was very nice. It looks a little shifty on the outside as if it may not be nice (dirty looking windows and blinds looking outside in). We were pleasantly surprised. The staff was nice. Our rooms were clean and the air worked well to keep us cool during the night. The breakfast was great, bacon, eggs, toast, pancakes etc. The only issue we had was WiFi connection, it was a bit spotty. Other than that, I would recommend!"
