Really good food with a diversity of Arabic, Indian (chutney, yogurt), and southeast Asian (coconut curry, coconut jasmine rice) flavours that is different from the stuff you'll get in the rest of Zanzibar. The Arabic architecture is also stunning.

Interesting to look at, you can see the splendor of earlier times. But there is still a lot to be done to preserve it.

A fabulous place to spend some time to get immersed in the Zanzibar urban culture. Beautiful, love watching the ships / ferries docking from the balcony of the Mercury Bar

Zanzibar relies on tourism. The people should be more sensitive to keeping it clean with no litter. I saw men on the beach (it's rare to see females that aren't foreigners enjoying the ocean there) toss litter. Some beaches are disgusting.

It's not Zanzabar town, it's Stone Town. Lots of Hawkers/buskers, but they are not those relentless kind that won't leave you alone. Just say no thank you a few times, and they get it.

Brilliant location, just watch out for very pushy local sellers, some of which do not understand "no"...

Great place to visit. The boat going to both island costs 80,000, you can get even cheaper like 75 or 70k for 2 people (private boat).
"The bed was perfect and our room had a nice view of the pool and ocean. The staff, Rabia, Yunus, and Yussuf Big to name only a few were great. A perfect place to stay for 4 days before our safari. "
"Super fantastic luxury hotel👍👍. Our best ever. Environment is very cozy and people are warm and very friendly😍😍💯., they are simply an embodiment of happy and hardworking crew. A brilliant choice for any occasion. Will be proud and delighted to recommend any day❤️. Great, fabulous and super clean. "
"Excellent and friendly customer service . Ms speed lady , is very nice, and always want to help.
I recommand this place to any traveler to zanzibar ."
"Superbe hôtel sur la plage d’uroa. Personnel très serviable et gentil ! Restaurant plutôt cher et pas d’alcool servi mais l’emplacement de rêve fait oublier les inconvénients "
"Fantastic hotel with amazing rooms. The staff are fantastic and extremely polite. The hotel puts on activities which are great for children and adults each day. Definitely recommended. "
"Excellent experience. The internet super good and roof top is shaded and perfect placer to do some work that we had to do. Working on vacation feel.
Great food. Only tip: ask for inward facing room to avoid occasional street noise at night."
"We had a fantastic experience staying here! The staff went above and beyond to accomodate our needs. They let us keep our luggage there before check in time with no extra charge, and they gave us a room upgrade to one of the best rooms (the Katherine Hepburn room), which was a really nice surprise. The staff were all super friendly and helpful. When we decided to have dinner in the Secret Garden Restaurant on a night when there was music, we complained that we had to pay extra for the music, and the manager was so kind. He didn't make us pay, and arranged for us to eat upstairs where it was quieter. We later realized that the music cost was explained in our welcome letter, so we appologized and paid for it the next day and the manager was so nice. The whole place was spotlessly clean, the bed was very comfortable and the room and the hotel were beautifully decorated. I loved the extra touches like the handmade scented soaps and the flowers in the room. We loved the balcony that was off of our room and asked if we could eat breakfast there instead of going downstairs. The servers forgot about us and we had to wait extra long for our food, but it was worth it! We can't say enough about how much we enjoyed staying at this hotel. We would definately stay here again and even though it's a little bit pricier than other hotels, it's totally worth it. We would highly recommend to others."
Konokono Beach Resort and Isaraya Over Water Villa
10/10 Excellent
"My husband and I split our time in Zanzibar between two places. Our first stay was a the KonoKono resort and in the over water villas. It was absolutely fabulous and honestly the nicest hotel room/villa we have ever experienced. We felt totally spoilt by the hotel and well looked after for our stay. The food was delicious! I have a severe allergy to garlic and gluten and they catered to my needs so I didn’t feel like I was missing out.
The room was stunning with a gorgeous view from the balcony. The cleanliness was impeccable.
The bed was huge and so comfortable too and we slept very well during our stay.
The floating breakfast was so decadent and really fun. We also loved the Tanzanian food night - fish masala curry was to die for!
The resort is also extremely close to The Rock Restaurant which is an incredible experience.
Charles was absolutely fantastic. He is a real credit to the team at the hotel. Jackson and Rosemary took great care of us during our stay too. Thank you so much!
Points to consider…
The road on the way up to the hotel was extremely bumpy but it would not deter us from returning. It’s just not ideal if you are planning to do lots of trips in and out.
Personally, if you are staying in the water villas I think I better system should be in place for transporting bags (like a buggy or something similar) the walk was lovely but quite long if you are carrying things. "
"We had an exceptional stay at Ycona Luxury Resort—truly one of the best resorts I’ve ever visited. The villa was beautifully designed, combining luxury with lush greenery and a variety of trees that created a peaceful and refreshing atmosphere.
As a wildlife enthusiast and photographer, I was thrilled to spot incredible species right from the resort grounds, including a Zanzibar Red Colobus monkey, a Red Squirrel, and the stunning Woodland Kingfisher.
Everything about the stay felt curated and serene—from the elegant layout of the resort to the natural surroundings. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a luxurious yet nature-filled retreat in Zanzibar."
"Quite far to get to from Stonetown but a stunning location. It’s boutique hotel so not the facilities of a mega resort but the local friendly staff arranged a couple of excellent things for me and I really enjoyed the intimate atmosphere. Great food too with sea views. I also enjoyed a massaged in a small hut by the sea so could hear the surf. "
"I stayed at Zanzibar Palace Hotel from June 8 to June 10 and had an amazing experience. The hotel is full of character, with beautiful Zanzibari decor and a peaceful atmosphere. The staff were incredibly warm and helpful, the breakfast was delicious, and the location was perfect—close to all the sights, yet quiet at night. A true gem in Stone Town. Highly recommended!"
"Absolutely loved our stay at Toa Hotel and Spa! The service was exceptional, with staff who truly go above and beyond. I wish I can give it a 10 star for their service! The rooms are stunning, with private pools and direct beach access. We enjoyed the delicious food made with love, and the beach dinners were unforgettable, complete with an amazing show under the stars. The pools are beautiful, and the whole property feels peaceful and luxurious. If you’re coming to Zanzibar, this is the place to stay. Highly recommended!"
"This is a lovely quiet each front hotel, we stepped from our door onto the sand. Roo.s are good and the staff were wonderful! We stayed in four hotels in zanzibar, the staff here are exceptional, very attentive and friendly. Hotel even supprised us with a free trip to the 'rock resaurant' and star fish beach! We would stay again in a heart beat..."
"We are a retired couple from Australia cycling the world on bicycles. This hotel was simply amazing! The staff so welcoming, the room had the best view ever being right on the beach, the food and service was top notch. And the price was very affordable. A hidden gem in paradise and not over run by Europeans either like many of the hotels we’ve stayed at. Highly recommend!
