Excellent stay! Amazing location - in the city centre within a few minutes walk to the Archeological museum, with lots or shops & restaurants around. The property itself is very charming, just how I like - refurbished in boutique style inter with authentic antique vibe. The staff is super friendly. Much more charming than a regular hotel or resort! Thank you!

Loved the finishes of the building and room. Kept old style charm. Clean. Enjoyed duvet covers. Close to shops and restaurants. Easy access to airport. Very noisy area though. Also would have loved a few complimentary bottles of water in room

Muy buena opción para el centro de Heraklion

Es una casa antigua con unas pocas habitaciones. Todo funciona por mensajes, códigos y con poco contacto humano pero va perfectamente. Enorme habitación, bien decorada y equipada y limpieza impecable. Como teníamos una doble una de las habitaciones era sin ventanas pero eso no importa cuando vas a estar fuera todo el día. Uno de los baños sí era incómodo por pequeño. No hay ascensor, así que hay que subir escaleras. Ubicación perfecta en el casco viejo con acceso a pie a todo lo interesante de la ciudad, que es mucho, y con un parking con acceso 24h a la vuelta de la esquina

Not adults only?

Everything about the experience was great, except listening to screaming children in the room above us until 1am. We thought the property was adults only, so felt misled. Otherwise a beautiful property in a great part of the city.

Das Hotel war optisch erstmal wirklich sehr sehr schön. Wenn man aber genauer hinsah sah man, dass die Armaturen teilweise kaputt waren, der Griff der Badezimmertüre super locker war und auch teilweise Flecken am Bett waren. Zudem kommt es, dass es sehr hellhörig ist. Das Bett ist sehr weich, muss man mögen, war aber für eine Nacht ok. Dennoch sieht es wirklich im allgemeinen sehr nett aus und es war super zentral zu allen möglichen Restaurants und der Altstadt. Für eine Nacht völlig ok. Würden jedoch nicht länger bleiben wollen, da wir die Nacht über kaum Schlaf bekamen.

Lovely restored period building in a quiet side street but just a few minutes away from the busting touristic centre of Heraklion old town. Parking is not so near, especially for anyone with mobility problems and the hotel does not offer any catering, not even breakfast, so you need to go out to "start your day".

A very nice boutique hotel in the centre of Heraklion. The room was excellent, and the tables in the courtyard made it possible to have a nice al fresco breakfast and evening drink. It would have been nice though to have the supply of tea and water replenished regularly - I stayed for four nights, and was down to my last teabag on my last morning in.

Very friendly host Thomas; messaged me quickly w/helpful replies to plan our arrival. Both hosts very welcoming & kind w/area info/map. Helped w/luggage & thoroughly explained use & access to property. Lots of towels/blankets w/comfy beds. TV w/cable channels. Nice coffee/tea service w/2 big water jugs in room. Very clean & spacious room; gave us upgrade to larger room for original rate. Provided early checkin upon request. Hotel is very cute & bohemian - 1 flight of stairs to rooms, FYI. Lovely courtyard w/covered area to sit rooms have small veranda w/chairs & table. A wonderful oasis in city - Highly recommend!

Truly a lovely hotel in an old and beautiful home that once belonged to the owners great grandparents. The hotel contacted us to get our estimated arrival time and one of the owners greeted us, gave us a map and explained the town layout and gave us great restaurant tips (try Peskesi in particular). Very convenient location too.

I loved my stay at Porta Medina. It really made my time at Heraklion a pleasant one. The room was big and spacious, good hot water and shower pressure. Nice touches like coffee pod machine, water carafe, beautiful courtyard and wonderful artwork dotted around the property. Thomas was very helpful to me and a lovely resident artist. Staying at the property, I realise it is something really special with historical references to the Ottoman period and an old water well (now covered over for safety reasons). If I was going to be picky on one thing, there was a little bit of mould in the shower. It wasn’t a big deal and the place is absolutely immaculate otherwise.

Ihana omistaja, todella ystävällinen. Hotelli oli viihtyisä ja kaunis. Ainoona miinuksena lentomelu, joka kylläkin kuuluu kaikkialle, koska lentokenttä on aivan keskustan vieressä. Lisäksi huoneemme kylppäristä oli hajonnut suihkukaapin toinen ovi, joten vesi roiskua kastellen kylppärin lattian. Huone oli todella tunnelmallinen. Menisin uudestaan. Loistava sijainti.

Walkable to the port, shopping, and dining. Very nice renovated villa. Quiet building. Street noise can be loud and planes fly over, but settles down around 11. We were happy to stay here and not the normal touristy places.

Like many boutique hotels in ancient city centers, it's a wee bit hard to find at first. But what a treasure! It's a beautiful town house. Our room on the ground (main) floor had a large bedroom with beautiful high, painted ceilings, as well as a sitting area that opened onto a secluded corner of the garden. Maria and Thomas were excellent hosts, arriving within minutes when locked ourselves out late one evening. Walking distance to so many wonderful sites, museums, and restaurants. There's no breakfast, but several places are within a few meters; we loved Queen, on the corner. Highly recommended; we would surely stay again on any next visit to Heraklion.

We liked: location (central and walking distance to old town), nicely renovated, clean with a lot of charm! Staff friendly and helpful. We didn’t care for: kids screaming and loud speaker at the schoolyard next block at 8am every morning; planes landing and taking off past midnight every night. Also note: loved the property but be aware no elevators.
