We were disappointed by our stay at Gotel Capital. The biggest strengths of this hotel are the location - right next to Yong’anli subway station - and its cleanliness. However, we did not feel we got the value we expected for the price we paid.
Here is a list of our complaints:
1. No coffee/tea at breakfast despite a large breakfast buffet. This was very surprising given that this is a Beijing hotel that appears to cater to international tourists. Even a small hotel we stayed at in Harbin had coffee at breakfast. I've never had this happen at a hotel, especially not at a hotel at this price point.
2. Only one or two attendants spoke English. Sometimes, at the desk, there would be no attendant on staff spoke English (this one is more understandable but an FYI to English-speaking tourists).
3. A few attendants refused to call a taxi for us, telling us the subway is close.
4. Shower door wouldn’t shut.
5. The lights in the rooms are bizarre, frustrating and hard to use. The lights would turn off / on through a bizarre combination of switches (instead of 1 switch for 1 light). Also, there was not enough lighting overall for the room's size.
Note: there were one or two very helpful staff members who did make us tea / coffee and call us a taxi, but it took a lot of effort for us to get these basic services.
Overall, we would have rather stayed at a hotel more catered towards international tourists, even for a slightly higher price.
