The property is rather large, so plan on walking a long way to eat or go to shows. It's a very pretty walk through palm tree, iguanas, water features, etc., just bring comfy shoes.
The entertainment staff were a lot of fun and pools are large with plenty of space to swim. The beach is nice and snorkeling is decent right at the property.
(There is a "protected area" just off the property in Akumal {not related to Secrets} where you can snorkel to see the turtles, but because it's "protected" you have to pay a guide to swim out with you. I found this out while I was snorkeling on my own, and was run out by a woman on a kayak. Obvioulsy they just want your money.)
Secrets doesn't take reservations for dinner, so you need to be flexible with your dinner choices. We tried to go to the French restaurant and were told it would be over an hour wait (at 9:30 and they are suppsed to be open until 11:00) and we should go somewhere else.
Where they fall short is between what they promise on their website and what they tell you when you arrive and what actually happens. The promises start at the top of the company, but they do not trickle down to the people who are the ones to deliver.
We paid the extra to be in the preferred club section which is supposed to have upgrades including mini bar. Our room was stocked with all the same bar items as our friends that weren't in preferred club. The only difference was we got one pack of M&M's and one small can of pringles. ;)
