For RMB 88 for a room with toilet ensuite, I cannot complain much. However, please be forewarned that one needs to be able to speak Mandarin otherwise one can hardly ask around. Moreover, the location indicated on the map is incorrect as the ZhongminBaiHui is closed and vacant building. I walked around and asked for the location but failed to find it. The next day, when my Chinese speaking friend helped to telephone and get the exact location, it was very different. It is actually easier to come by Dingan Road if one has a trolley bag to push around as if you go by ZhongshanRoad, you have to take a number of steps to get to the hotel front door which is actually quite obscure.
The plus side was the location as I could get food, shop and take public bus transport to some touristy places like the famous Nanputo temple, Overseas Chinese Museum and Xiamen University. The fortress was also nearby but I was not aware that the bus I was in could have taken me there in 3-4 bus stops away. Qulangyu Island was also easily to be reached but due to the misty weather, I had to give it a miss as it was raining and visibility was very low. Another good point is the airport bus terminal to bring me back to Gaoqi International Airport Terminal 3 was within 7 minute walk with my luggage and cost me only 10RMB as compared to taking a taxi which could have set me back by 60RMB. So it was a bargain.
