This imposing hotel is in a great location, overlooking the River Tweed and Dryburgh Abbey ruins. Unfortunately, the first impressions don't last long.
The room was in dire need of refurbishment, and the en-suite needed replacing. In the bathroom, the bath was stained and had several repairs to it. The shower rail was loose and felt like it was about to collapse into the bath. The toilet didn't flush very well. The shower pressure was very poor. The net curtain on the bathroom window was hanging off its rail.
The bedroom looked very dated and the velvet headboard was dirty. At least the bed was comfortable!
Breakfast was a disappointment. The vegetarian breakfast looked very average and was missing the advertised vegetarian haggis. The smoked salmon and scrambled egg was and made with one egg.
Based on the room, I would say that this place is being run into the ground by its owners, with no investment in it for decades.
