I was hesitant to book this place at first. It was the most expensive option I was considering and the reviews were very mixed. The location seemed unbeatable and the idea of staying in a Victorian haunted mansion felt too unique to pass up, so I decided to try it.
After reading more about the previous owner who used to run the B&B, I understand why some earlier guests felt disappointed when they returned after the new management took over. If you want a classic mom and pop style stay with a very personal touch, this is not that type of experience. It is now run by a corporate management company and the atmosphere reflects that.
With adjusted expectations, and knowing how pricey Key West is in general, this ended up being a great stay for us.
The property is beautiful and full of history. I had only seen Victorian mansions in movies and TV, so it was exciting to walk through one in real life. Our room was big and bright. I did see a review mentioning that the art was removed and the nails were still on the wall. That is true, but it honestly did not matter. I did not come to a historic inn in Key West to look at discount wall art.
You will hear some noise at night since the hotel is very close to Duval Street. It was not as bad as I expected. My mom is a very light sleeper and she slept without any issues.
