Our stay at a&o hostel was excellent. It would be good if a kitchen with facilities was available so you can prepare your own meals and dinner available. This is based on our experience at a&o Hostel in Sydhaven, Coppenhagen.

Do not stay at this hotel! The hotel is in a very shady part of town, with intoxicated men just hanging in and around the hotel. There were no sheets or pillow cases on the bed and the mattress was filthy! The pillow and throw were covered in blood and sweat and there were unknown substances running down the wall. I tried to call the customer service but the phone was answered by a rude man demanding my name and room number, which was so odd! We had no choice to but check out within a hour of checkin in. My children were too scared to sleep in such conditions. Do not stay here!!!

Nice for what we paid!

We stayed in a family room. Twinbed plus bunk bed, shower plus toilet. It was 23-25 degrees outside but inside it was 30... no ventilation or air con. But we only paid 1000 kr per night so its fine. I would like to tell the manager rhat they need more people in the recetion at check in. Too long waiting time. The selfcheck in did not work. The people working in the reception was nice.

I booked a stay at a&o Hamburg City through Expedia, but my experience was beyond disappointing. From the moment I arrived, multiple issues made it impossible to stay: Hidden Charges: I was forced to pay €10 for clean towels and bedding, which should be standard and was not disclosed during booking. Overbooked & No Bed Available: My assigned room was packed, leaving me without a place to sleep. Filthy Alternative Room: The replacement room was dirty and clearly uninhabitable. No Help from Staff: When I requested a single room, they refused, blaming Expedia for the booking restrictions. Ultimately, I had to cancel my stay entirely because the hostel failed to provide even basic accommodations. Avoid this place if you expect cleanliness, honesty, or decent service. To Expedia: I expect a full refund for this booking, as the property misrepresented its services.

Decent stay for a good price

The hostel is in a very convenient location. There's a massive grocery store a tiny walk away, an S-Bahn station an even shorter walk away where you can hop one stop to Hamburg HBF. I was positively surprised at how modern and clean everything was at the hostel from the moment I stepped in. The layout of the hostel is a bit confusing, and some elevators couldn't go down to ground floor for some reason. Unfortunately I was made to feel a bit dumb for not knowing if I wanted to check in at the desk or myself. One of the employees tried to tell me how annoying it is to check in at the desk or something, and I told him I'd never stayed at a hotel or hostel before so I didn't know what to do, which is why I came up to the desk. Luckily the employee next to him stepped up and helped me through the process and he was great. Rented a towel as I was travelling light, very reasonable price. In the room my main issue was that there are individual lights and usb outlets for each bed but mine weren't working. Before checking out I noticed the issue was as simple as my bed not being plugged into the wall for some reason? Otherwise the room was great, toilet was really spacious and clean, shower was a bit tight but my shoulders are wider than average, so that has something to do with it. The pillow is nice and big, the blanket is good too. Bedframe could be less squeaky and mattress a bit thicker but minor complaints, really. Lots of little stools to sit on when not in bed.

Hostelet låg bra till, bara en station ifrån centralstationen. Vi bodde i ett familjerum och rummet var rent och fräscht. Det enda lite negativa var att det var ganska lyhört, men annars är vi nöjda!

Billigt, men af en årsag

Halvdelen af elevatorerne var ude af drift, det er ikke nemt at komme op på 7. sal med barnevogn, der ikke passer i én af de to fungerende elevatorer. Generelt var der stor pres på de fungerende elevatorer, og måtte af flere omgange gå op til 7. Sal, eller ned derfra. Manglende tilsendt information om checkin, som i øvrigt blev udført af en receptionist der slet ikke burde har været på arbejde den dag. Virkede nærmest irriteret over indtjekningen, og gav os ingen information om hvor og hvordan morgenmad fungerede, eller hvor elevatorerne var. Kort til værelset udleveret, og videre... Vi måtte den efterfølgende morgen konstatere at vi ikke havde fået den nødvendige QR kode til morgenmaden, som jeg måtte op at hente i receptionen. Morgenmaden var dog efter omstændighederne ganske fin, der var et godt udvalg og hele tiden fyldt op. Priserne på mad og drikke var helt hen i vejret, men man må man jo forvente at det er dyrt sådan et sted. Værelset var pænt og møblementet relativt nyt og intakt. Sengene var skummadrasser, som var en anelse udfordrende at sove på. Grundet den ekstreme varme, og af sikkerhedsmæssige årsager, var det ikke muligt at åbne vinduerne meget, og vi kogte i noget der minder om 35-40 grader på værelset. Ikke et sted der giver mening for småbørnefamilier. Mangel på parkeringspladser gjorde at vi skulle parkere i parkeringshus til 20 euro om dagen. Så får pengene hurtigt ben at gå på.

Also der Preis war ok, aber drum herum nicht. Das Angebot an Speisen ist sehr bedürftig und viel zu teuer für die Größe der Position. Getränke ebenfalls zu teuer. Eine Pepsi (0.5) 3,40€ und eine Flasche Bier (0,5) 5€(aus dem Automate) Die Fenster kann man nur ganz öffnen und der Straßenlärm, schrecklich. Fahrstühle funktionierten nicht und wenn man in den 6. Stock muss, mit viel Gepäck, ist man schon am Anfang super genervt. Ich hab im Zimmer, einen € gefunden, was mir sagt, das das Zimmer nur oberflächlich gereinigt wurde. Das eine Kopfkissen hatte einen großen Fleck, einfach eckig. In der Nacht, laufen die Kinder, von anderen Gästen, laut durch die gänge und klopfen sogar an die Türen. Also an schlaf und Erholung, ist in diesem Hostel nicht zu denken. Also für Party people ist es wahrscheinlich perfekt, aber für leute, die einfach mal abschalten wollen, nicht.und übrigens, ist Hamburg eine riesige Baustelle und vom Berliner Tor sind es nicht 5 Minuten,wie a&o es auf ihrer seite schreiben, sondern 20 Minuten, da man einmal um den Pudding muss. Im großen und ganzen bin ich enttäuscht.
