Paper thin walls and fireplace woes

The front desk employee who checked me in was perhaps mildly rude, but she could have been having a rough day. The hotel wasn’t as nice as I expected, based on pictures and reviews. It’s getting a bit dated and the walls are so thin that I could hear literally everything in the room next to mine. My fireplace wasn’t working properly, and one of the main reasons I booked here was because I wanted to end my day reading by the fireplace. They sent up a maintenance worker, and he got it working a little bit, but said they’d need a new part to fix it and I didn’t want to deal with that hassle about an hour before I planned on going to bed.

Two night stay

Newpark is a nice hotel and a good location. It’s very walkable to nice restaurants and coffee shops. There is also a market nearby. The units are quite small but comfortable. Parking was free and convenient. There is a city shuttle near the hotel which get you about the city. I wasn’t found or the short toilets and will keep downgrading hotels that have them. It is no fun when you’re a senior with short toilets! In our room you have to be watch the tv from the side as the tv living room and bed are one room. It is fine when sitting on the couch. I liked the large tub. It too can be difficult to get in and out of. The grab bars need to be mounted a foot or two higher. I also dinged the review because of the 4PM check in and 10AM checkout. We always feel cheated with the reduced hours you can be in your room. Let get back to 3PM/11AM Please as you know how hard it can be getting your spouse out by 10AM. Overall our two night stay was good.

Scared, unwanted visitors and a rude front desk!

This was our second time staying with newpark. In this trip we learned that not all the townhouses are the same! Wish that was in the description. We loved the first stay. This time we got a small townhouse that was right on the edge by the downtown. Town square looked right into hot tub. The slider to the deck, door wouldn’t lock and I didn’t feel safe with my kids. We went to the townhouse and in the 10 mins we were there we had 4 men come up unto our deck with a broken slider door to sit in the chairs, check the deck out and throw water. I went back and asked if there was a different townhouse that was back further as I didn’t feel safe with my kids in this one. She couldn’t put us anywhere else that could fit our family even for 1 night. After talking a bit and pleading my case I was told I could take meds to sleep at night as my solution to feeling uncomfortable. Kids crying because they were scared of the men, me upset about the situation and how I was treated when voicing my concerns, hubby drove back to the desk and was able to get a smaller townhouse that was back further. We still had man sit on our deck but at least the door locked. The hot tube could only comfortably sit 1 adult or 2 kids. We did ask how we could have booked the nice townhouse that we stayed in before and was told it’s just the luck of the draw. We finished out our stay as it was already paid for and left disappointed.
