The Glen Mahr has, traditionally, been considered one of the better hotels in Inverness so I had high hopes. Unfortunately, the allocated room was tiny and very old fashioned, with curtains that proved quite useless by 6AM when the room was flooded in sunlight. The bathroom was possibly the smallest room I have ever been in and wasn’t the cleanest either. Upon arrival, the bedsheets were dirty and I felt so uncomfortable with the general cleanliness and size of the room - particularly with COVID - that I asked reception if I can pay for an upgrade and a cleaner room. Despite their own website and Hotel.com indicating availability of more rooms, I was told that there are no upgraded rooms available. It was arranged for housekeeping to come to the room and to clean. We decided to have breakfast in the hotel after asking if they cater for people with coeliac, as my partner has a gluten allergy - one of the most common food allergies. We were assured that the restaurant does provide gluten free choices so went for breakfast. Upon asking waiting staff what could be prepared gluten free, staff simply responded by saying “do you know what you can have?”, showing no understanding or knowledge of the ingredients in their food. Worse yet, after I ordered my full Scottish breakfast, the same waiting staff suggested to order some cornflakes for my partner. while I understand that much might be linked to post-covid reopening problems, this was the most disappointing hotel stay ever for me

No phone in room. Had expressed to reception that we were on honeymoon. Pre-booked room service on arrival at 3.30pm for breakfast for next morning at 9am. Had to phone reception using own phone at 9.30am as hadn't arrived. At 9.40am had to go to reception to say that it still hadn't arrived . At 9.45am watched staff bring breakfast from restuarant through outside grounds...uncovered... No lid on food. Breakfast was cold...No fresh fruit or pastries as promised. Servicing of room - no hand towels left. Used glasses and coffee pot not taken away. No hand sanitiser at main door of area we stayed in. Restaurant food was average for price paid. Disappointed. Hotel looks good from outside, but tired inside. Competent and friendly staff.

I was sent an email from the hotel asking me to review my stay as they implied they were interested in my views. A waste of time. They never replied - presumably they only like positive reviews. The welcome was impersonal and off-hand, the room had not been properly prepared - it is no fun asking for toilet paper! There is no lounge area for residents to relax and to access food required a 30m walk outside. The exterior door security was poor and when our swipe card for the outside door / room door stopped working. Staff showed little interest. If the hotel had only replied to my concerns I would not have posted this review. It gives me no satisfaction. If you are thinking of the Glen Mhor check out your room setting very carefully. You may be put into a terraced house as we were which is away from the hotel entrance with no reception and poor security.

The room was nice, fully refurbished despite the hotel being more than a century old. Nevertheless, the curtains by the window block the heater which is annoying when you'd like more privacy and stay warm at the same time.

Lovely large room with lovely views over the river. Staff very friendly even though busy. Room lovely and clean and felt safe during the COVID restrictions
