My first irate review ever

Some places have a business strategy that the profit from overbooking the place is higher than the cost of poor reviews when travelers are rejected due to overbooking. To fulfill my purpose in this strategy, I hereby contribute my poor report as I was moved from my booked location (near my meeting commitments) to another location on the other side of town. It was 2 in the morning when I arrived and was informed, and I would spend $100s on taxis extra due to this “we have oversold” strategy. Why not 1 star? Staff was very civil, and the gym was really good. Maybe 1.5 as then apartment decor matched the stylishness of the Chernobyl TV series, in terms of designer affection and engagement. This is my first irate review ever, but as mentioned, that is likely a consideration by the company running the venues.

The suite was comfortable, clean, and priced right. There weren’t enough towels for the number of guests but the front desk staff were helpful in providing more on request. The location is fantastic, right next to Georgetown. Great neighborhood and plenty to do. The room had a strong smell of mildew, outdated stove/ oven, rusted drains in the bathroom, and an occasional sewage type smell that we think came from the drains. These things could’ve been specific to our suite and wouldn’t deter me from booking again.

Der Check In war sehr gewöhnungsbedürftig. Wir mussten selbst über das Handy einchecken. Den Reisepass fotografieren und hochladen. Alles nach Anleitung einer desinterressierten und gequält dreinschauenden Rezeptionistin. Es wurde uns erklärt, dass wir ja vorab eine Mail bekommen haben wo wir aufgefordert wurden, selbst einzuchecken. Wir waren 2 Wochen mit dem Schiff von Hamburg unterwegs und hatten kein Internet. Und wozu gibt es 2 Personen an der Rezeption, wenn wir Alles selbst machen müssen. Es wäre auch fein gewesen, wenn das Empfangspersonal über die Örtlichkeiten, nächste U-Bahnstation, Busse, etc. Bescheid gewusst hätten, oder zumindest grüßen würden, wenn man kommt oder geht. Es gibt auch keine Zimmerreinigung oder Handtuch/Wäschewechsel. Nur alle 7 Tage, außer man bezahlt extra dafür. So etwas habe ich noch nie erlebt. Wir waren selbst Hoteliers in einer Großstadt...und das wäre in Europa nicht denkbar. Ansonsten war das Hotel sehr ruhig.

Looked pretty on ground floor. Hotel clerk that checked us in was nice. Manager and rest of staff rude. Got to our room which was newer and looked nice but the beds were unmade and sheets everywhere. They changed our room to an older more run down room. Kitchen dirty and bathroom dirty. People in our family did not want to take showers because of how room looked. TV did not work and they claimed it was because of a storm - yet the internet worked. Other people had issues and they were afraid to say something because of how we were treated (they witnessed one of the interactions regarding the room). They comped parking but should have comped everything. We were afraid to walk around room without shoes on. had lots of bed bug bites as well. Will share photos with expedia directly.

The hotel was in an excellent location on the edge of Georgetown. We walked to dinner nightly and to the Foggy Bottom metro station to get to all the attractions. Georgetown shopping was just over the bridge and easily walkable. The expedia app says that parking is avaliable on site, which is correct, but it is EXTREMELY limited and costs $42 a day. Someone at the desk suggested that I use the Spothero app to reserve a parking spot close to the hotel and I was able to reserve a spot close by for cheaper than the hotel was charging. I felt more confident driving into town knowing that I had a reserved parking spot and wouldn't have to drive around and park on the street.

We did not arrive to a clean, modern, boutique hotel as indicated on the photos. The room was rundown and in need of renovations. There was a musty smell and the furniture was old and dilapidated.

Not a happy place. I stayed for 4 nights in April and it was very hot in Washington. There was no air conditioning for the first two nights which made my stay very uncomfortable. The staff blamed this on the local authorities but other nearby hotels had A/C. I asked to be allowed to check out at 1 pm on my last day instead of 11 am. The staff refused and charged my card for an extra night even though I did check out at 1 pm and was told that I would be assessed $100. An altogether tough experience. Unlikely to come back or recommend the place to others.
