Far from five-star and VIP
We booked 7 nights in a “Garden VIP Suite with Semi Sharing Pool” at Rodos Palace Hotel, expecting a premium experience based on the description and photos. Unfortunately, the reality was far from that.
While the hotel grounds look nice, both the rooms and common areas are very worn and poorly maintained. Our suite had rusted lamps, loose electrical cables in the bathroom covered with tape, cracked and damaged woodwork, stained sunbed mattresses, and loose decking around the pool. The wallpaper was peeling, and only one of three bathroom lights worked when we arrived.
The main pool area was also neglected, with many broken sun loungers and dirty, stained mattresses. Overall, the hotel feels like it had its glory days more than 10 years ago and has not been kept up to the standard it still advertises.
We complained to reception on the first and second day, then followed up in writing on the third day with photos. The hotel offered us another suite, but it had the exact same problems, so we stayed in the original room.
Hotels.com later refunded 3 of the 7 nights, which we appreciate, but it doesn’t change the fact that the “VIP suite” and the hotel in general were neither VIP nor five-star in reality.
