It was competent. No frills. Great view of Hamilton Park which was very nice. In house restaurant wasn’t my favorite. It had a very pronounced cleaning smell and the menu wasn’t great. Vibe was lackluster but there is outside seating. Bar had odd sports match on.The front lobby had quite a fragrance too. That was not the case in the rooms.

The room was average. The door had a gap on the side that you could see into the room and outside the room about 24-36inch long. Making light from the hall all night enter. Nothing helped covering it.
Room was nothing special.

Great hotel, not so great front desk
The Hamilton is a beautiful hotel and in excellent condition considering it’s 100 years old. We stayed in the Diplomat Suite which was nicely appointed. I was a little thrown that the only parking available was valet, but that may just be a DC thing. We had an excellent bellman help us unload our bags from the car and take them up to the room. My only gripe about the service was that nobody was at the front desk later in the evening (after 9?) when we called down to let them know we found an emptied box of candy on the mini bar (and wanted to make sure we weren’t charged for it). So I went down to the lobby and nobody was at the front desk - they came after I stood there for a minute or two, looking around. We also didn’t appreciate that the TV remote in the room didn’t function the way it was explained in instructions on the TV. We basically couldn’t get it to work. But after my previous experience with the front desk I wasn’t about to try them again.

I do not recommend
The lobby is pretty but one of the two evenings we had no water pressure and we couldn’t bathe or flush the toilet. Also the refrigerator froze our fruit. The breaker menu is expensive and we had to go out for breakfast.

No AC in 2nd floor room!
Room 218, the Air Conditioner did not work. We had to move rooms around midnight to room 231 which was basically a much bigger space. But it had AC. Appreciate the maintenance guy admitting the AC Unit had to be replaced. Would apparently have taken 90 minutes to do. I feel the hotel needs to br ahead of such issues!
It would be nice to have a complimentary water upon arrival. Most hotels at this price point do.

The room was clean and comfortable and the location was convenient. The refrigerator didn’t work and stank. My car was brought around by the valet 15 mins later than promised.

Insurance is pointless, terrible customer experie
Apparently buying insurance in case of emergencies is pointless. I booked my trip through hotels.com app & I had to put my dog down literally right before the trip, so we couldn’t go. Hotels app help said they tried many times & couldn’t even contact the property manager. It took over a week for a response. Then they declined my request for a refund. Terrible customer service & experience. If this is how you manage a property, I’d hate to actually stay there. I will not be using this hotel at all in the future.
