This hotel is good, I couldn’t tell you why it has a rating of 9.0 on Hotels.com though.
Normally 9+ means that the hotel is either objectively exceptional or is remarkable give the price. This hotel is similar in cost to other big hotels nearby that are exceptional, so I don’t get it. Everything works fine although the room is pretty dated.
I had a good stay at the Okura and slept well, but this hotel wasn’t exceptional.

Yes staff is very helpful.very comfortable room. Worth the price we are paying. Shopping is average near to the hotel. We stay here only for 1 night then board the royal caribbean cruise. Near to cruise centre.Buffet breakfast have fantastic section. Worth the money overall.

It’s a heritage building in a great area.
Room was clean but a bit tired and old fashioned. The bathhouse/Onsen area was very small but clean, needs a good spruce up, it looks quite run down, needs some more work to make it more attractive.
Breakfast was good selection.

The hotel is a little old and dated, but the rooms are nice, clean but not worn. The service is great. For the price, it's hard to find a place in a better location. It's a classic hotel with a lot of history.

I stayed at the Okura Garden Hotel Shanghai for nearly a month and had a wonderful experience. The bedding was very comfortable, the room was kept spotlessly clean, and the indoor swimming pool was my favorite part of the hotel. The housekeeping staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this hotel.

Lovely hotel and excellent location,(French concession area), ideal for our visit to see our daughter. The only negative was the shower, excellent pressure but over the bath and dual control with bath taps, the shower head kept falling out of the wall bracket especially if pressure was full on…we definitely prefer a cubicle. Bottles of toiletries would also be preferable instead of small tubes. Overall the hotel was great, clean, comfortable and quiet. For info we had a superior double room which had a large king sized bed.
