For a two-day stay costing $678 I was charged $371 for the hotel's "benefits" package. This "package" included things you would automatically expect for a hotel of this price (e.g., wifi, lobby coffee, gym, early/late checkin/out per availablity). The package did include 6 bottles of water per day, breakfast ($25/person/day value) and two drinks per day ($32 value). So for me that was ~$150 for my two day stay.
When I returned home, I tried to take advantage of some of the other "ongoing" benefits to justify the total $371 charge (e.g., $25 restaurant.com gift card, discounts on Chicago tours). However, the link in the benefits package brochure did not work !!
Furthermore, the price of the package was stated as $49.95 on the home page of the website; I was charged $89.95!
I believe it would be impossible to take full advantage of the "benefits" for the price paid.
And the checkin process took forever. Although there were three desk attendants, the line was so long that it took 15 minutes or more just to check in. I did overhear other guests being "surprised" about the mandatory benefits package charge.
The condiction of the room itself did not reflect the nightly price; it was dated (scuffs on the baseboards, furniture with splitting wood). No coffee machine in the room, one small tube of shampoo (for a room for two). My room in particular looked out to another building; no view at all.
My bill also included a $160 "reservation processing recovery" charge.
