Bare bones hotel, inconvenient setting, nice folks but the property hasn’t been updated since Thatcher was in office. Bad smells throughout. You get what you pay for.

Basic

Shower head had no bracket you had to hold it by hand to have a shower. Bathroom smelled due to the Sani flow, not working correctly.

Nice hotel, but difficult to get the temperature right in the room and the curtains were so thin that the flood lights from the car park lit up the bedroom also! Please put black-out curtains in your bedrooms!

Poor

Staff were fine but the hotel was poor. No internet in room. A shower that was so small and the TV where you needed a degree or a lot of patience to operate. Won’t be staying again

The room is clean & comfortable, the staff is helpful & friendly, easy check-in and out process, the car park has plenty of space.

I booked into the hotel due to free parking the availability of a bar and restaurant. I was disappointed to find there was no bar or restaurant but a cafe that stopped food at 7.30pm and closed at 9.00pm. The cafe was a 10 minute stroll from the hotel reception, which is fine if its not raining and blowing a gale. The room was adequate and clean but only had one chair in a double room. I feel the hotel needs to make it clear to clients that the facilities are a let down

Room was clean, but showing its age. It was on the small side, but big enough with all the facilities required. What we particularly liked was the french windows opening onto a small seating area, beyond which was the carpark. We used this as our main entrance and exit to the room. Very convenient. We can imagine this being very pleasant in the summer. The marina also benefited from a cafe/bar on site, serving simple pub food and breakfasts.

The room and stay were wonderful. However the location on Hotels.com site is inaccurate. It was an hour's walk from what was advertised

Nice hotel I have stayed a few times and all rooms seem bright and spacious. Plenty of free parking at the hotel which is helpful. Staff friendly at reception.

Not good,won’t be returning.

Location of marina incorrect on hotels.com and reception isn’t open till midnight as I arrived at 2220hrs as a lovely security guard had to check me in. On sight Indian restaurant now permanently closed for future visitors. Got woke up by a glass spotlight above bed soon as it became daylight (0430) which was useful when I didn’t go to sleep until approximately 0130. After checkout I went for breakfast at the marina cafe but very little signage to get there. When I got there I ordered breakfast and was charged £9.90 instead of £8.75 which was on there own website. I then went for a walk along 1 jetty to look at some of the marina canal boats as I do a canal holiday every year with my parents and also made notes of my stay in my notepad as I walked and waited for my breakfast to be cooked. I returned to the cafe to eat my breakfast and to find out it was literally half the size of the picture on there own menu but was so hungry as I hadn’t eaten the previous evening as nothing available on arrival. I finished my breakfast and went for a walk around the perimeter of the marina as I had a long wait till my train, when I was approached by the marina manager called Sonia who asked what I was doing, why I walked along the jetty and what I was writing down which is now in view as my review of this marina, not that was anything to do with her what I was writing in my notepad. Which I had done done for all my accommodations during the previous 23 nights across Europe.

Looked unkempt outside, thought the cafe was on site not a walk/ drive away . No information on how to get through the barriers to the cafe , not like a hotel, more like a motel

Woken by a fading in daylight feature.

My one complaint is about the light in the ceiling that fades on as the sun rises. The room I chose had no windows - I thought that would mean it is a good dark room (apart from the usual small coloured light to indicate the exit). But there was a large light in the ceiling that faded lighter and lighter in the morning. Unlike light from outside windows, it didn’t have an option to close a curtain on it. I was woken by the light at 5:50am and it just got brighter from there. This was the first time I realised why they had provided an eye mask on the pillow. But opening that up and putting it on only woke me up further. I dont know if there was a way to disable it - I couldn’t see any switches and there wasn’t any info in the room. I checked in late with a security guard so also don’t know if info would usually be given on checking in. All other things about my stay were excellent. Staff friendly. Bed comfortable (firm, which is what I prefer), decent pillows, good linen, nice toiletries. The cafe nearby did a good breakfast (not included) and the curry place next door smelled good when I arrived, but I had already eaten so cannot comment further. If you consider a windowless room here, I would ask about the ceiling daylight feature first and check it can be disabled if the light is likely to disturb you. Or make use of the eye mask if you won’t find it uncomfortable. My photos show the light at 5:50am and at 8am with no other lights on in the room.

Explore the local area on foot or get on a train

A great find. On arrival we walked over to look at all the boats on Roydon Marina and had lunch at The Boathouse Cafe Bar, which overlooks the Marina. Staff friendly and helpful in the Hotel Reception. We had booked a windowless room but figured we'd be watching television or asleep so wouldn't need to worry about looking out of a window. It got a bit stuffy in the night and felt a bit constricted but it was probably more psychological than actual. Train station in walking distance. Trains to London. Indian Restaurant steps from our hotel room. Delicious meal here on our second night. We had a leaflet in our room which gave us 10% off food excluding drinks. So happy days! Great for walking. We walked beside the Stort Navigation and to Dobb's Weir for a great breakfast at the Palace River Cafe. We hope to return and use this hotel as a base once again.

We were warmly greeted by a nice administrator, but the rooms are old, the corridors smell musty, the towel had a stain, the fire alarm lamp, which shines a bright green light, prevents us from sleeping and the lamp by the front door lit up in the morning for some reason by itself, it's strange, I think it woke me up and I didn't get enough sleep...
