We arrived on evening ferry, and was pleasantly surprised the hotel had a pick up waiting with a "simple life" sign. We had not called ahead and there was only one other guy who also did not order the pick up. When we arrived (we booked standard double room), the room itself was clean but the bathroom had a strong sewage scent. We brought it to the attention of the front desk, and asked to change rooms. There were no more standard rooms aviailable, and they offered an upgrade, at our cost, which we refused. After threatening to book a different hotel, we were given the upgrade at no additional cost. Not once did the manager come to speak with us directly. The upgraded room was larger, but definitely showed signs of age and wear. The sewer smell in bathroom was less but still present. For the rest of our stay, the staff service itself was great. Front desk was very helpful giving directions and advice for exploring the island. When we left "do not disturb" sign on the door, the cleaning staff still left toiletries and bottled water on thr porch. We had to check out very early and they packed some bananas and water for us. Overall, despite the helpful staff and fantastic location, I would consider exploring other hotel options.
