We stayed at Akademie Street Boutique Hotel during July and booked 3 rooms for our travel party. We arrived in the late afternoon, only to find that there was load shedding underway, and the resort had made no provision of inverters or generators for our rooms. So our first experience of our rooms was dark, cold and gloomy. Trying to unpack and get set up in our rooms while stumbling around in the dark was no fun. Overall, we had power less than half the time we at the resort. There was no disclosure when we made the booking that the resort had no electricity backup, and we assumed that since load shedding has been ongoing for years, that such provision would have been made at a resort of this calibre. The only bright spot was that all the staff were really nice, and the breakfast was good (although no artisan coffees as the barista machine was off due to loadshedding; no toast due to loadshedding, etc). We had had high expectations coming to Akademie, but it was a very disappointing experience at a resort that charges a premium rate. Buyer beware...
