Maintenance Nightmare
Check in process was fast and front desk was professional. The stairs were in rough condition, but various Amazon boxes piled on the balconies showed that upgrades/refurbishment was underway. Okay, I can deal with that. The view was beautiful, the room was clean, if a bit dated. The mattress was uncomfortably hard for us, but I can dismiss that as personal preference.
What I can’t dismiss as personal preference was loud pounding on the door in the middle of our stay, demanding entrance. Apparently, the workman planned on leaving soon, and it would only take “one minute”. I stood there in my pajamas (my wife was hiding under the blankets as she was also not dressed for public display), as they hammered, slammed the door repeatedly trying to get it to latch. With the door wide open to the January weather for 40 minutes, they finally brought out the metal grinder. To say that put a damper on the rest of our stay wondering when the pounding would repeat itself as some new emergency maintenance materialized is an understatement.
Regular maintenance is part of doing business. But non-emergent situations need to be deferred if customers are occupying a room. If a room isn’t ready for occupancy for any reason, then don’t rent out that room.
