Strand Historic District
The Strand Historic District whisks you back to 1800s Galveston with its Victorian mansions and cobblestone streets. Horse-drawn carriages clip-clop past beautifully preserved shopfronts that somehow survived America's deadliest hurricane. Art galleries, antique shops, and the Grand 1894 Opera House give you plenty to explore while gas-lit streetlamps create a magical evening atmosphere. Seafood restaurants serve fresh Gulf catches in historic Victorian buildings, while pubs offer casual fare with harbour views. Choose between charming bed & breakfasts in converted mansions or boutique hotels with ornate period furnishings. The compact six-block area is perfect for walking, with the waterfront just three streets away.

East End
Step back in time as you wander the East End's tree-lined streets showcasing Galveston's stunning Victorian architecture. The Strand Historic District dazzles with 19th-century buildings that weathered the famous 1900 hurricane. History buffs will love exploring Bishop's Palace and the Grand 1894 Opera House, while maritime museums reveal the island's seafaring past. Fresh Gulf seafood dominates local restaurant menus, from upscale dining in restored Victorian buildings to casual coastal eateries. Most accommodation is charming bed & breakfasts in converted mansions offering personalised service. The area is best explored on foot or via trolley tours that connect major historic sites.

San Jacinto
San Jacinto showcases Galveston's rich history through well-preserved Victorian cottages and the impressive Art Deco San Jacinto Building that survived the 1900 hurricane. Tree-lined streets with Spanish moss create a peaceful retreat from bustling tourist areas. Visitors can easily explore East End Historic District, Lost Bayou, and the nearby Seawall Beach for authentic island charm. Family-owned cafes serve fresh Gulf seafood and Tex-Mex in this walkable area. Charming bed-and-breakfasts in restored Victorian homes offer the perfect base for your island adventure. Though public transit is limited, abundant street parking and flat, bike-friendly terrain make getting around a breeze.

West End
The West End of Galveston serves up quintessential Gulf Coast magic with miles of sugar-white beaches waiting for your footprints. Jamaica Beach, Bermuda Beach, and Sea Isle Beach offer perfect spots to wiggle your toes in the sand or try your luck at fishing. The 2,000-acre Galveston Island State Park delivers nature trails where bird watchers can spot over 280 species. Beach houses on stilts and low-rise condos dot the shoreline, most offering dreamy Gulf views and direct beach access. Casual seafood joints serve fresh-caught fare, though you'll need a car to explore this spread-out area. The constant sea breeze, seagull calls, and spectacular sunrises make the West End worth every sandy step.

Jamaica Beach
Jamaica Beach offers sun-soaked shores and refreshing Gulf waters just west of Galveston's busier areas. Beach lovers can wiggle their toes in the sand, cast a fishing line, or paddle out on a kayak adventure. The peaceful residential vibe creates the perfect backdrop for families wanting a low-key coastal getaway without the tourist crowds. Holiday rental homes and condos with full kitchens make up most of the lodging options here. Getting around requires your own wheels since public transit is limited. Most visitors cook meals at their rentals, though a quick drive puts Galveston's restaurants and shops within easy reach.

Victorian mansions line the Strand District, where 19th-century buildings house shops selling saltwater taffy and maritime curiosities. The 1877 Tall Ship Elissa offers a glimpse into seafaring history. Seawall Boulevard's beaches invite sandcastle building and people-watching. Pleasure Pier's carnival rides extend over the Gulf waters, creating a skyline of spinning lights against sunset skies. Moody Gardens' glass pyramids contain rainforest wonders and aquatic exhibits. After hurricanes, this resilient island city rebuilds with determination, preserving its character while the waves keep coming. For a perfect afternoon, grab fresh seafood then wander among oak-shaded streets where historic homes survived the great 1900 storm.

"There was no reading chair in a large king bed room. Only a ridiculous desk chair"
Harbor House Hotel and Marina at Pier 21
"Customer service was great checking in and out. The ladies were very helpful. Amazing stay as always."
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Galveston Beach by IHG
"Our stay was absolutely wonderful! The property was clean, well-maintained, and welcoming. A small touch was the water vase with orange slices waiting for you as you walked in! The breakfast area was clean, orderly, and offered a great start to the day. The rooms had those small personal touches that made the stay feel comfortable and personable. But the real highlight was the incredible beach view. Sitting on the balcony, taking in the ocean and the beautiful weather, was simply breathtaking. The hotel's location right on the Seawall was perfect. With a great restaurant right next door and plenty of other restaurants, shops to see, Overall, it was a five-star day and a five-star night. We truly enjoyed our stay and would absolutely recommend the Holiday Inn to anyone looking for a safe, clean, comfortable, relaxing place with an amazing view and a great location."

"We booked our stay last minute and for the price we were very pleasantly surprised how clean and nice the room was. Staff was very friendly"
Gaido's Seaside Inn
"It is an old hotel but has been updated and the rooms are very clean. Beds are very comfortable and rooms were nice and cold!! (It's very hot out!!). Breakfast was good every morning. Staff was very nice and helpful. Swimming pool and hot tub worked well and was clean as could be with all the people and smoking area in pool/bar. Smoking area right outside your rooms is a major plus for this smoker. Two restaurants attached to hotel with good food and drinks. Small coffee pot and coffee in room, mini fridge and microwave. We stayed in the family room - plenty of room except only 1 bathroom, but toilet and shower behind closed door and vanity/sink separate. Beach was right across the street, and we just walked over to it; rented chairs and umbrella - life was good. I would definitely stay here again."

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Galveston
- Book for the cheapest times: The most economical time to visit Galveston is during January, February, and December, when hotel prices are generally lower. For a budget-friendly getaway, a stay of at least 2 to 3 days is recommended to fully appreciate the city's key historical landmarks, cultural attractions, and natural beauty. You can explore stunning beaches, indulge in local seafood, visit beautiful gardens, and enjoy various festivals. Additionally, birdwatching and fishing excursions around the nearby islands offer great value for money, making your trip a fulfilling experience on a budget.
- Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: When planning a trip to Galveston, you may discover attractive hotel deals by exploring the DealsOpens in a new window section on Hotels.com. For those seeking spontaneous escapes, the Last-Minute Deals section could offer discounted rooms near your travel date. Additionally, the app's Smart Shopping tool is a useful comparison tool to review hotel prices and amenities. Enabling email alerts or push notifications may also help you stay informed about flash sales and last-minute promotions, so you're more likely to secure a suitable option when availability or prices change.
- Be flexible with dates: Prices may fluctuate due to factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so having some flexibility with your travel dates could help you find a more economical option for your stay in a Galveston hotel. For those seeking distinctive accommodations, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised experience and may offer better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we will inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price appears to be on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could offer a more favourable rate.
- Consider your location: Hotels near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive; however, thanks to Galveston's excellent public transport links, you may find a more affordable independent hotel further afield that remains well connected. For travellers keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value for money. Opting for these alternative destinations might offer a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
