"Very helpful and friendly staff from check in to the restaurant staff. Hotel room was clean and the food in the restaurant was great. The outside could have been a bit tidier due to a lot of cigarette butts lying around but that was a small issue really."

The Royal Lion Hotel

The Royal Lion Hotel

8/10 Good
"This is a very old property and so of course it does look a little tired in places and the wifi is not so great but they were the only negatives. The hotel is in a fantastic place right in the middle of the High St and it has a car park which is a godsend. The food menu in the bar is excellent for lunches and dinner. Definitely add the breakfast as there is so much choice from cooked oprions to pastries, cereals and fruit and all of the the food was delicious. The staff were so lovely and couldn't help enough. Dawn the manager even let me use the hotel phone when I was having trouble ringing out. I would definitely recommend this place and the bed was incredibly comfortable!"

For those seeking something a bit different, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised experience and may offer better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we'll inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price appears to be on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could lead to a more economical option.
  4. Consider your location: Opting for accommodation nearer to key attractions or city centres may offer added convenience, but it often comes with a steeper price tag. For more budget-friendly options, you might consider hotels in less central areas or neighbourhoods, striking a balance between cost and accessibility to the sites you wish to visit. It’s worth exploring independent hotels located a bit further out, as they can provide a more authentic and usually more affordable experience.
